Alfred Sung Homme is one of the freshest, cleanest fragrances I own. It has an incredibly rich soapy character that reminds me of stepping out of the shower, with crisp herbal and green notes that keep it feeling bright and masculine all day long. What impresses me most is how powerful it is—a couple of sprays are all I need, and it projects with confidence while lasting for hours. If you love classic, ultra-clean fragrances with serious performance, this one is an absolute gem.

* Clean and fresh smelling aromatic fougere * Surprisingly complex * Good blend of fresh, spicy, floral, herbal, citrus and woody aromas * Strong notes of pine, lemon, juniper, black pepper and artemesia * Great for formal occasions and office environments * Strong performer * Gives Drakkar Noir, Pour Lui, Eternity and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme a run for their money * Great for older male users who dislike sweet fragrances * Drugstore price * The comparisons to Irish Spring soap are accurate * May remind younger users of an outdated generation of fragrances * Not good for younger users * Not unisex * Dull presentation that needs updating Alfred Sung's Sung Homme is the last vanguard of the 1980's aromatic fougere heyday, a time when Guy Laroche's Drakkar Noir, Paco Rabanne's Pour Homme, Calvin Klein's Eternity and Oscar de La Renta's Pour Lui were groundbreaking and worn by men all over the world. That time is now gone. The fresh and sweet DNA rules the day, especially amongst younger users. But there's still plenty to like about Sung Homme. You'll find it now in local drugstores and online discounters for a steal instead of the designer price it went for decades ago. Though it has obviously been reformulated, the modern blue colored fragrance still packs quite a punch quality-wise. It's a strong performer that's a good blend of fresh, spicy, floral, herbal, citrus and woody aromas. You'll pick up strong notes of pine, lemon, juniper, black pepper and artemesia. This is fresh and clean and surprisingly more complex than you'd imagine. However, it has also been described as smelling like Irish Spring soap and that's not unjustified. (That particular soap, by the way, made millions off of being marketed as a "deodorant soap" with a unique aroma that everyone recognizes to this day.) Truthfully, this is more complex than that but the similarity is definitely there and so strong that you won't be able to not think of it when you smell this fragrance. So what you have is a very clean and safe long-lasting fragrance that smells great but is well past its heyday. A classic soapy barbershop aroma that will work in any professional environment but isn't likely to leave a memorable impression. Older users who dislike sweet fragrances will appreciate the nostalgia and quality here, but I can't see a younger person using this. The rather dull presentation will only remind users of a bygone era and and a modern redesign at any point would have been beneficial. I find Sung's presentation for both Hei and Shi to be much more attractive and modern. Performance is great and the price is rock bottom, a steal that can be found at any drugstore or physical or online discount retailer. The value is there if you enjoy aromatic fougeres and have a nostalgic feeling for them. Younger users should in all honestly avoid and use a modern fougere or freshie such as Dior Sauvage or Invictus. Otherwise, older users will enjoy. Recommended on that basis.

This smells nothing like the most recent version of Irish Spring soap and/or body wash, which was the original reason why I bought it (purple bottle). However, despite my initial disappointment, it is still a great value for the price. There's definitely more of a peppery "spiciness" in Sung Homme and much less of a "soapy clean" citrus/petitgrain/bright green scent compared to Irish Spring soap, especially within the first 1-3 hours. Definitely a strong pepper note in that first 1-3 hours and slight cinnamon aroma going on too. There is a barely noticeable animalic feel in the first 1-2 hours, but then it goes away. Irish Spring soap is much more "clean", "fresher" and brighter. Sun Homme is quite a bit "darker" by comparison, but not over the top. On the dry down, it's heavy on the lavender and it persists for a long time after the 2nd hour, then it mellows out after 3 hours. There is also a slight pipe tobacco note in the base that persists all day. For these 2 reasons, it's definitely more of a "barbershop" feel, but it's not overpowering like the older school fragrances, but it definitely still carries on quite of a bit of the vibe. All fragrances eventually tend to dry down a bit sweet on my skin, especially outside. After 2 hours, more slight sweetness comes through and makes this fragrance really shine, but it still retains its peppery and "lavendery-ness" without becoming too sweet or bitter/peppery/spicy. For this reason, I can wear this while doing outdoors work for long periods of time and stay fresh. Towards the end, there is a powdery smell. You can definitely tell that it retains the old school character but is still tolerable. For indoor use, I wouldn't use more than 1-2 sprays. EDIT: The projection and sillage on this thing (purple bottle) is insane. After 7-8 hours it still projects a good 1-3 feet and the sillage leaves a slightly sweet, peppery, smoky, yet still "fresh" mossy path. Excellent for outdoors work or manual labor for extended periods of time.

It's blue now instead of purple. The opening smells different and isn't as strong but the base notes last longer now closer to the skin. Smells more like live carnifer, white musk and new irish spring instead of dead carnifer, Aldehydes and old Irish spring. They should have left it alone. I have both versions but im sad the purple juice is a rare item now...

At first whiff Irish Spring soap and current formulation Drakkar definitely make the most sense, with some Polo Green hints. It's juniper, lavender, and citrus that becomes strong soapy, powdery, and pine-needle in the heart before going that woody, leathery oakmoss base route. If you like any of those scent profiles, you'll like it - it's like a lighter wear Drakkar with more soap on the first dry down, but then gets interestingly leathery making it night time capable.

Yes it does smell very similar to Irish spring soap and it does last a very long time. Smells higher quality than the asking price and very versatile with its soapy and piney scent, I think it could be worn year round.

If you love classic, masculine scents like Drakkar, Polo and Azzarro, this is for you. Smells great, lasts long and projects nicely. One of the best old school cheapies you can buy next to Lapidus and Lomani.

I only have one thing to say here. Combine this with the Original Irish Spring and thank me later.

Got a 100ml bottle today. Very intersting scent. Very complex overall smells like 80s quality soap. The performance is good. Cool bottle and interesting juice color. Definately try this one if you like oldschool scents. The price is great also.

A lot of reviewers on here say that this scent has a striking resemblance to the smell of Irish Spring soap and well… they aren’t wrong. It’s actually a very accurate description of the overall scent. The opening has a lot more fruit and freshness than I expected. Lemon, tangerine, petitgrain, and a solid dose of lavender lead the charge on the opening. As the heart evolves, the fruity soapy combo evolves into a greener middle dominated by lavender with a bit of pine and sage. When the base notes emerge, you get that textbook 80s oakmoss and patchouli come in although in a subdued way joined by some light cedar, sandalwood, and a bit of musk. This isn’t your usual 80s macho bomb. This is a clean soapy scent that remains relevant more than three decades after its initial release. Fans of Azzaro Pour Homme and Drakkar Noir will find a lot to like with Sung Homme and its cleaner fresher take on the powerhouse fougere style. What is really interesting to me about Sung Homme is you can really see this scent as evidence of the evolution from the dominant 80s style of powerful fougeres into the clean and fresh 90s style. With its 1989 release date, it sits right in the middle of the dominant styles for each respective decade. Even though there isn’t anything particularly striking about the notes, the scent is still well composed and maintains strength so exercise caution when applying, as just two to three sprays will do the trick. I see this having a lot of utility as an all season scent that would work well for the workplace or casual use when you want to maintain that freshly showered scent throughout the day. Nothing here is particularly striking or offensive so you’re unlikely to offend others in your vicinity. The performance is very impressive for an older reformulated scent that can be picked up for just $15 on Amazon! The projection is fairly strong, easily reaching out 2-3 arms lengths out for the first 2-4 hours. The longevity is very solid for a budget priced EDT, I am easily clocking it at 8 hours minimum before it starts to die down.

Received my bottle today and upon spraying first time, I detected that very herbal old-style soapiness often found with things like Imperial Leather or Pears. I can't say I've ever smelled Irish Spring soap but I can see what people might mean with the fresh soapy pine feel. Sung Homme is 100% a powerhouse but with a more approachable vibe, the herbaciousness teases the nose upon first whiff giving you a sense that you're in for a rough peppery ride but then it tames down into a gentler floral woodsiness with that pine still giving it a backbone. I sprayed like 4 times around the sides of my neck and I kid you not, I can't really smell it much now lol. I've definitely gone anosmic to it! For long term use, I could see myself reaching for it every so often after a shower or during a mild spring day like today however I would see myself leaning more towards resinous and citrus heavy fragrances as opposed to green fougeres like Sung Homme. The value you do get however is spot on and it's really a case of you not having to spend much to smell amazing - these little OGs of times gone by are a treasure trove of low cost performance and stand-out smells.

sniffingbill-- aldehydes like crazy in Avon Topaze made my stomach hurt. I'm an oversprsyer too, sometimes. gotta watch out!! haha.

I have no idea what Irish Spring soap smells like but this beast is extremely wearable even for a young man like me. It's more creamy and soapy than aromatic, this was a blind buy for me and i expected something more refreshing and minty since aldehydes are also mentioned among the cornucopia of notes. Ultimately, i am satisfied.

I get some similarities with Amouage Beach Hut Man, they don’t smell the same but there is definitely a resemblance. Very soapy green/white scent. Almost doesn’t smell like a cologne, more like youve used an old school power soap. Old school squeaky clean. Wore it to the beach this morning (cooler weather) and it was great! Good performance, especially on clothes.

When I smelled this, it instantly brought me back to the late eighties or early nineties when my Father would wear it. Its one of the all time greats. Soapy, clean power. If i still smoked, I would imagine it would mesh well with the cigarettes.

This scent has a lot going on. Ultimately it smells like Irish spring soap to me. Just a tip. GO EASY ON THE TRIGGER. 2 sprays are more than enough. More than that and you will choke out anyone in a mile radius! (Including yourself) I really did not care for this even though I love Irish Spring soap, Until I dialed in my sprays and now it's quite nice. LESS IS MORE with this particular beast.

This one brings back memories. I rebought the his after watching a Max Forti video and said man haven’t seen this in a while. It was dirt cheap and got a bottle. This is a strong masculine barbershop scent. A little animatic and won’t be for everyone. But if you are an old school type of man and like the fragrance of old like Korous this one is for you. Have to give it a 3/5 just because I’ve smelled so much better. This is just for nostalgia now for me.

If you are a guy age 25+ looking to dabble in Aromatic Fougere's/Barbershop/Soapy fragrances this would be the first fragrance I would recommend. Ideally my first recommendation would be Drakkar Noir but after reformulation the performance just isn't there. This you can get for around the same price and get that soapy, green, herbal barbershop smell that performs for well over a solid workday with minimal sprays. It's just a much better value. Simple, timeless, and undeniably masculine.

Анонім★★★★★

Smells like the most masculine soap imaginable. The dry down on clothes smells almost like there's an undercurrent of stale cigarette smoke though, as though it brought the 80s with it.

Анонім★★★★★

Not much to say that has not been said already. It smells very clean, pretty green and masculine. Yes - it does smell like soap and yes, it’s great. I have a blue juice bottle and still get 10+ hrs of staying power. This one’s really a no brainer if you’re looking for something that’ll tick all the boxes. The scent profile will not blow your mind but will be very familiar (in a nice way). This would work great for daily wear, work or just a dumb reach. This was a good purchase. I would recommend.

For me, this sits somewhere between Drakkar Noir (clean, soapy) and Bogart Signature (sharp, green), but without the rancid spiciness that made me sell the latter. It doesn't feel quite so suave or street-smart as Drakkar Noir, but the overall impression is similarly hygienic, only with a dash of the rugged, almost feral quality which characterizes so many masculines of the era (e.g., Yatagan). In the far dry-down it reminds me quite a bit of Polo, as well. While excellent for the price, I don't know if I'd buy it if I already had Drakkar Noir or Polo (or if I had liked the Bogart). In short, Sung Homme is a great, affordable masculine in the mold of Drakkar Noir, but a little less urban and refined.

Анонім★★★★★

the aldehyde pine fir combo makes this almost minty on the drydown, can be headache inducing

The atomizer is PERFECT. This fills a room for the first hour almost too much so dont over spray please. Then it stays on your skin and clothes forever and smells really good. I mean it when I say it's a really nice skin scent literally FOREVER. Smells like Moisture Blast Irish Spring bar soap(blue) and Aqua Velva Original Sport aftershave(green).

If I ever go swimming in a pool alone at night, this is the fragrance I'm going to wear.

Анонім★★★★★

It's cheap and soapy, but something in there I wish wasn't. Sort of a celery smell that this cologne could do without. The soapiness, though, is great.

Анонім★★★★★

Weird astringent green smell with very pronounced and loud urinal cake accord. You will definitely smell like a school bathroom with air refresher sprayed.

Wearing Sung Homme felt like an unexpected trip down memory lane… straight into my childhood trauma. My great-grandmother’s bathroom had this ancient, slimy bar of pale green soap that never seemed to shrink no matter how many decades it sat there. It had cracks filled with mysterious brown gunk (probably fossilized dirt at this point), and it smelled exactly like this fragrance. One whiff and bam! My subconscious unlocked that dark little memory I didn’t know I was still carrying around. Thanks, Sung Homme, for turning repressed trauma into an eau de toilette experience.

Admittedly, when I read that this was an 80s powerhouse fragrance, I was expecting something along the lines of Kouros and Lapidus Pour Homme. Initially, I was a little disappointed upon first spraying it - now I think it is delightful. It doesn't announce itself like Kouros and Lapidus. Don't get me wrong, the projection and longevity are both excellent, they're just more understated. It's subtle but at the same time, prominent and lasting. Very soapy and clean smelling. Perfect to chuck on when home alone, date night or just snuggling with your significant other.
