I just took a sniff of a 14-year-old bottle I had, purely to remind myself of what was once the best fragrance I had ever experienced. And guess what? It still stands. I have never smelled anything quite as boozy, resinous, and deeply ambery as this. It’s like a lavish Arabian night celebration captured in a bottle. Campy, Opulent, theatrical, and unapologetically luxurious. This is the fragrance you would wear if you had just landed on the moon or won the Nobel Prize, because honestly, no ordinary occasion feels worthy of such a majestic and magnificent work of art. If Amouage ever decides to re-release this gem, I genuinely think they should only offer it in 30 ml bottles. Not because it deserves less, but because of how extraordinarily potent and eternal it is. 100/10 And it will forever be in my Top 3 best fragrances ever made.

It has the typical dark feel of Amouage, it's a sweet-kind and incense-heavy scent. I can maybe smell patchouli too (this appears as the longest staying note later) but I don't know about the others. Incense gives the dark feel. Smells very good and lasts long.

Opus VI has a rather eccentric opening with a spicy burst of citrus from the chinese pepper, but also greenish aromatic and intensely scented by bay leaf. A dense mist of a spicy bittersweet incense quickly emerges. These top notes create a spicy and enveloping aura, creating a warm smoky and inviting atmosphere, already hinting at the complexity that lurks beneath this promising start to the fragrance. At its core the composition has a complex interaction and begins to reveal itself with the resinous smoky aroma of cipriol oil with the sweet woody of patchouli [bringing an 'oud accord], i also feel a very exotic floral warmth. With this adding an earthy and slightly smoky texture. These rich ingredients create a sense of depth and mystery to the fragrance. Here it starts to be evident that it is a very powerful perfume. The fragrance sits on a rich and sensual base of an exceptional ambery accord worthy of Amouage's fame; in fact, this synthetic amber, but of excellence, accompanies the perfume throughout its evolution and with the infusion of an obscure labdanum provides a deep and resinous warmth, balanced by creamy sandalwood for a polished and sophisticated finish ... anchored in ambery, earthy and woody tones that leave a lasting impression of refinement and elegance. Opus VI is a very powerful fragrance; opulent and robust that offers striking aromatic green notes, a smoky spicy incense, and a constant presence of a sweet amber resinous that envelops like a warm and comforting embrace. It is a true testament to Amouage's mastery in creating luxurious and unforgettable perfumes. This Oriental, Amber, Incense, Spicy, Woody Masterpiece embodies the essence of the 'Golden Age of Amouage', a rich and complex history of Arabian luxury and refinement. 10/6.8

Ahh how nice it is to be wearing one of the older Amouage Opuses again. Perhaps it's just my own failing, but it's easy to forget how good these actually are; I always remember that they are exceptional, but it isn't until I put one on again that I truly recall that exceptionality. In my personal and ignorant opinion, there has been scarcely a better perfumer and creative duo than Christopher Chong and Pierre Negrin. Now, that said, some of the Opuses from Amouage's good ole days are definitely not as good as the others. Opus VI falls into this category - but, it must also be said that this is speaking only relative to the Opus line: even my least favorite Opuses are generally going to be head-and-shoulders above a lot of the plonk on our retail shelves today. So what do we have with Opus VI. First point to get out of the way is that it's a big heaping amber. Perhaps that's one reason why this is more at the bottom of my Opus list, simply because I'm worn out on ambers like a lot of us enthusiasts are. With Opus VI amber tells a bit of a different story than we - or maybe just I - am used to. Upon first sniffs, the labdanum and woody amber base is very apparent, and indeed it stays fully centered throughout the entire life of the perfume. The top notes are of frankincense, bay leaf, and fruity spicy peppercorns, which is an interesting combo to put on top of ambers. The peppercorn in particular has such a pronounced fruity note to it that, in combination with the aromatics of the bay leaf and rich smoke of the frankincense, I could've sworn I was smelling oud. But no! No oud. Give the perfume a couple of hours for those top notes of bay and peppercorn to disappear as does the illusory oud - the frankincense stays - to welcome in cypriol, patchouli, and broom. It's a very nice transition. The bay and peppercorn at the top keep the powerful amber from descending into lifeless, monodimensional, heavy and sticky territories, as is often the case with amber, by providing a bracing and uplifting fruity and aromatic accord, and the job of those top notes is passed-on in the transition to a resinous green aromatic and smokey cypriol and spicy patchouli. Lovely. At this point, in typical Amouage style, in addition to wonderful transitions and evolutions, the perfume is growing before my very nose. The amber base, cypriol, and patchouli are getting stronger, projecting more, diffusing more to reveal interesting facets. You can very nearly always count on Amouage to take you on a journey of some sort. (Shall I reiterate one of my earlier points? - That even lesser Opuses tend to be a lot better than most of what else is out there these days?). The inevitable is of course inevitable, and the final skin scent is simply an amber, but getting there was pretty interesting and, just as importantly, enjoyable to wear. So many ambers, particularly modern ones, are not enjoyable; they are crude, sweet, sticky, bulbous, suffocating, overtly synthetic, blah blah blah - take your pick of negatives. Amouage doesn't do ambers, so you can expect (or at least hope) that when they do one it is not going to follow the popular template. Here is the primary issue, which, unfortunately, has an undue effect: this perfume has long been discontinued, and even when it was still being produced it was very expensive; now that it is discontinued and a collector's item, it is nose-bleeding and heart attack-inducing expensive on the aftermarket. Is it worth it? Honestly, no. At the end of the day, it's an amber in a million. Yes, it's a clever amber, and yes, it's done a lot better than most, but really the only reason to go looking for this and to buy it is because you're a collector.

A warm, balsamic, oriental women's fragrance that uses synthetic amber in two notes and a synthetic woody compound. Production is discontinued, and only imitations or small quantities exist.

Анонім★★★★★

Amouage please bring this back I am begging on my hands and knees.

All I can say is this opulent perfume caught my heart. I have never purchased middle eastern perfume smelled like this. This is greatness in a bottle

Анонім★★★★★

Not really "animalic" to my nose, just a dense Labdanum forward amber, its quite good for what it is... I was just expecting something furry. I'll add the disclaimer that I'm a huge fan of animalic's in perfume so my sensitivity and perspective could be a bit skewed because of this. I'd opt for labdanum 18 over this, but its nice nonetheless.

Replay to Zebarahu : a pity that this bad boy was discontinued, but in the Amouage line you might need to try Journey Man, as it is well spiced with Sichuan Pepper, incense and Cypriol oil. Forget the fact that is targeted for men, as it is as unisex as this OPUS VI. Enjoy the sublime spices !

Анонім★★★★★

easily the best fragrance Amouage has ever put out

Анонім★★★★★

Sweet and mildly spicy, yet delicate amber. Lasts for days on clothes and hours as a scent bubble. Great for fall and early winters. If you like Jubilation XXV, then high likelihood you would enjoy this too. Shukran Habibi!

Анонім★★★★★

Just tried this, it’s so good it shouldn’t have been discontinued!!!! Like why?

Анонім★★★★★

@zebarahu please try Fortis by Liquides Imaginaires. I received a sample and from first sniff it was Opus VI with a few less notes (no bay) and a bit less of the animalic feel this has but by no means weaksauce. It’s definitely worth a try to see if it scratches that itch for you.

Анонім★★★★★

Can anyone please tell me an alternative in the amouage line for this perfume since it’s discontinued 😢😢😢

Анонім★★★★★

of course they had to discontinue the best Opus... -_- This was my go to unisex. Deeply aromatic, vibrant from sichuan pepper, extremely well blended base of sandalwood and incense. Stayed on my skin and clothes whole day and longer. Not overwhelming though to wear as a woman. You will be missed Opus VI!

Анонім★★★★★

This is like the base of Overture man. Take away the fruit in overture and replace it with an animalic top note and you’d have this. I like this one better. I think it’d fit a woman if you love non sweet amber and animalics.

Анонім★★★★★

This is what I call an Amber. First time I smelt it was super intense and had an animalic top. Now with time I don’t get that pungent opening. I sense the aromatic green touches and the rich amber, resiny and spicy facets. It’s sweet without being cloying. Almost honeyed. Dense and golden. As animalic as snuggling your cats fur, it’s warm and purrs just as contentedly on skin. A slow considered love that has become a forever love. Glad to have snapped a bottle up while I could.

Анонім★★★★★

It needs time to get the heart of it. You are interested but don't want to wait? Try Sandstorm by panouge

I have a special place in my heart for amber fragrances; there’s just something irresistible about them to me. Opus VI from Amouage is like experiencing amber in its purest and most magnificent form. From the moment you put it on, it’s shining bright, and keeps on glowing. Right out of the gate, you get hit with this strong, bold incense that makes the amber even more stunning. It’s got a vibe that reminds me a lot of another all-time fave of mine, Interlude. But Opus VI does it better. It takes everything great about amber, turns it up a notch, and adds this touch of elegance and luxury that’s just out of this world. This is probably what God smells like.

Анонім★★★★★

Not a safe blind buy regardless of the great reviews and especially for women. Very, very strong... so not even sure where this can be worn. I am a woman and could never use this perfume. This said, I would like to smell it on a man. It could be good with right usage (not overspraying) and right weather perhaps. My husband refused to even try. It's a spicy amber, quite pungent in the opening (that last awhile) and more amber-like as it develops. But the loudness of the perfume limits its use frankly.

Opus VI is another olfactory artwork from Amouage's Library Collection. In a nutshell, it consists of a multifaceted amber accord, enhanced to perfection by a cloud of patchouli in the base. In equal parts dirty, chocolate-y and balsamic, the surprising complexity of patchouli is showcased here. Overall, this scent is masterfully put-together - there is much to admire and appreciate here. OVI opens with pungent, animalic amber from initial spray. It is musky, bolstered nicely by the subtle incense note, adding a little dry smokiness, and bridging the gap to the balsamic phase of this scent. The patchouli is present from the beginning, initially dirty and herbal, becoming smoothly balsamic as it develops, melding seamlessly with the amber accord in the vein of the extraordinary Le Labo Patchouli 24. It is leather-like in its early phase. The amber accord becomes sweeter as it develops, with a nice smooth sandalwood note adding depth. The balsamic patchouli becomes increasingly chocolate-y here. When it eventually dries down, dry vanilla creeps in, complementing the sweet amber nicely. It fades to a powdery vanilla skin scent, perfectly sweet with no trace of animalic leather evident. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is an autumn/winter scent. Perfectly unisex despite its increasing sweetness, OVI is a deeply satisfying, beautifully composed amber-patchouli scent. My favourite Library Collection chapter so far. 4.5/5.

Well , what does Amouage Opus VI smell like..? It's a mix of (Amouage Journey man 60% + 25% Joyvoy Psychedelique and 15% Bentley for Men Intense) Woody, Aromatic, Incensy Amber mixed with Earthy/Chocolatey patchouli I think Nsmtt. Pardon is much more wearable and modern than this. Still good creation 8 out of 10 for Opus VI 9.5 out of 10 for the Vintage Pardon

Class and Perfection in a bottle. This masterpiece was mr. Christoper Chong's true heritage for Amouage.

Анонім★★★★★

this is so, so beautiful. when i first smelled it from the bottle, i thought it was just "quite nice" until i put it on my body. i felt like _such_ a powerful woman. there's something about it that made me radiate with warmth and compassion?? it's a little strong at first, but it backed off surprisingly quickly, within two hours maybe. it then turns into a sort of mature sweetness that really gives off "mom" vibes to me... maybe my mom had worn something like this when i was growing up? who knows. it makes me feel things.

I don’t understand why they would discontinue the absolute best of the Opus line while rebottling some of the lesser numbers. So far, I’m unimpressed with their new creative director. They’ve produced nothing of note since he joined, not even the attars, which are beautiful but not remotely original. I was turned off of the guy when I came across him dismissing Chong as “artsy fartsy.” What an arrogant attitude to have towards the person to thank for making Amouage a world renowned niche house. This new director has scrapped everything niche, like clearing a table of all its cutlery and platters by pulling the cloth out from under it. That’s all too artsy fartsy for ME. Better reinvent Amouage so that Chong’s legacy doesn’t overshadow MY EGO. Fire this jerk.

Nice amber but not mind glowingly good. I like the cypriol addition but otherwise this smells very similar to Perris Monte Carlo Ambre Gris especially at the drydown. I don’t get the hype which happened as this got discounted.
