I just got a sample of this after looking at all the reviews. It does in fact smell like maple syrup and pancakes but I got sick of it after maybe 10 minutes. The kinda sick you get after smelling a candle that just it too artificial. It’s really nice but I probably wouldn’t buy a full bottle. Fun scent, I think I might just be a bit picky

I had to buy a sample vial to smell this, since it never shows up at decant sites or stores. I didn't even see at at the flagship store on 9 Bond St. in New York (at least not out to sample)... After getting it in, I am glad I got a chance to smell it. A very solid coffee fragrance that isn't just coffee like many others. It combines a rich sweet coffee with chocolate, vanilla, lavender, cedar, and patchouli. The main note here is coffee, so you will want to make sure you are okay with smelling like coffee if considering buying it, but the woods and florals make it much richer and deeper than just the smell of having spilt coffee on you earlier that day... This is my second favorite coffee fragrance (first is Montale Intense Café) and third favorite Bond No. 9 (first is Bleecker Street, then Lafayette Street).

thisismaesun: This came out 13 years before Pure Tonka so of course it isn't a dupe of it. I understand that you actually meant a suitable replacement for Pure Tonka but I'm feeling petty. I agree that it isn't a suitable replacement.

TL;DR: This is *not* a good dupe of Mugler's Pure Tonka. Disregard this review if you're not looking for a dupe of that scent. I recently ran low on a cherished adolescent fragrance of mine: Pure Tonka by Thierry Mugler. It's a tonka-forward A*Men flanker with prevalent green freshness and a touch of anisic licorice. In 2017, most masculine fragrances (to my nose) smelled astringent and musky; I'd hesitantly pick a scent and wear it until it was finally gone. I'd gotten PT at a time I knew little about perfumery, but it was my first favorite - so much so, that I rationed the bottle for eight years. As I watched it dwindle, I kept an eye out for anything that was remotely similar. Enter, New Haarlem by Bond No. 9. I could sit here and expound on my experience with this fragrance, but I'll keep it brief: this is not what I was looking for. The citrus and green notes are unnoticeable, and the scent profile is oddly powdery. Maybe it's the cedar? I wouldn't even say this is particularly sweet or cloying. I don't know *what* this is. I won't lie, I was kinda mad I even spent $20 on a travel size decant. I couldn't imagine spending full price for a bottle of the stuff. I had at least three or four people in my life smell this, and reactions ranged from "meh" at best to a sour expression and a "ooh, no" at worst. Not to say this is a bad fragrance, by any means - I can see why people would like this for the same reason I like PT. Just from browsing this site, the number of fragrances with a similar DNA is barely in the tens. I've just gotten tired of straightforward gourmands with little complexity.

Doesn't smell like straight maple syrup as many are suggesting but rather the aroma of an ihop. I was expecting a very dense gourmand but pleasantly surprised it has a light quality to it and almost get a powdery undertone along with the pancakes. Reminds me of a pancake scented dryer sheet.

Very sweet--such a realistic maple syrup smell that I was hallucinating sticky syrup around my lips! I just finished a 1ML sample I got as a gift, and I will say this fragrance was a pleasant surprise. It has great longevity and decent sillage, while not being offensive. Well blended fragrance, and the hints of coffee you get in the middle really deepen the fragrance on my skin. The opening is masculine yet sweet, and I really did enjoy wearing this. I haven't tried Rochas Man, so I'm not sure how that compares and if this bottle justifies the much higher price point despite being from the same perfumer.

Easy signature scent. I remember going to the clinic wearing this and while walking through the area where the nurses are sitting down at their desks, I walked past one lady and she was frantically turning around, left and right, as if someone had tapped her on the shoulder. I noticed it but I didn't really pay it any mind until later a friend mentioned that she probably smelled this on me.

I really wish the coffee note was more prominent, but it's a dense maple syrup scent. This is a very expensive playful morning frag to wear and I really love it when I get a whiff of it on someone-- which is rare, but it's recognizable.

Something about this feels nostalgic. New Haarlem smells like a luxurious breakfast with syrupy pancakes, a hint of coffee, and warm sweetness in the air. It’s incredibly comforting, especially on cold mornings. Honestly addictive. If you love gourmand scents, you’ll love this.

Think of it as the softer, daylight version of Angel’s Share — a younger relative with the same golden sweetness, yet more airy and urban. Both New Haarlem and Angel’s Share explore the same gourmand-ambery territory, yet through different lenses. New Haarlem blends coffee, lavender, and patchouli into an aromatic maple-syrup warmth — urban, brisk, and energizing. Angel’s Share replaces coffee with cognac, cinnamon, and oak, creating a denser, boozier, more opulent sweetness. Similar base DNA of vanilla and tonka, but different moods: morning café vs. evening cocktail.

I can see how this one would be hit or miss. The syrup note is more pronounced than I expected and it is harder to get the lavender and coffee notes. For me it comes across as a fairly linear syrup gourmand. Nonetheless, still smells good and the performance is crazy. For me this lasts easily all day.

To me, this starts smelling like fresh, dark roasted coffee with lavender and then dries down to the pancakes with maple syrup scent that many reviews mention. There's something comforting about this perfume. Wearing it on a cold day with a hoodie or even dressed up, it just makes me feel good. Be careful with overspraying because you think it's gone soon because others will smell it very strongly. Overall, it's noticeable from a distance for 7-8 hours at least and as a skin scent (like if someone's face was on your neck) I've noticed it 12 hours later. Longer on clothes (I don't spray my clothes, but it rubs off from my neck). I've worn it a few times on cool summer days and it was nice, but it really shines in fall and winter. I'm a man and consider this a unisex fragrance. Scent 8/10, longevity 8/10, sillage 7/10.

Smells like maple syrup… if you get reallllly close to the application point. I used a whole 1.7ml sample, on skin and clothes, and can barely smell it. Just no projection.

while it does have a nice syrup and pancake smell, it has weak projection and is a somwhat synthetic smelling scent. i have no desire to purchase a full bottle of this once my 5ml atomizer runs out. not worth the hefty price tag at all. it's better than other Bond no.9's i have tried, but at this point i consider Bond no.9 an extremely overrated fragrance house

Wow only did 2 sprays and it smells very strong! Syrup even a note on here? I do not get coffee perhaps in dry down, but it smells like maple syrup pancakes.

Signature scent worthy n Idc if it leans more masculine 🥱 Kevin Samuel’s referred to this as “sexy pancakes” and ts 100000% true. Literal Maple Syrup. Opens with a subtle lavender freshness, followed by a creamy, rich coffee, and sweet vanilla-tonka note. I was born in Manhattan and raised in Harlem for 15 years of my childhood, so I resonate with the name of this scent and Bond No 9 as a native New Yorker. Not only did the fragrance last forever on clothing and 8+ hrs on skin but it wasn’t cloying or extremely masculine w my body chemistry either. This is my all time fav scent from the brand and I plan on getting myself a full bottle as a late 22nd bday gift 🤎💜. 10000/10

This fragrance is fire!!! Smells so good and unique to every one around you. Smells like a coffee shop. Most people don’t own fragrances that smell like this so you will definitely stand out.

Before acquiring this in a trade, I obviously read the reviews, and there was one user that referred to this as a businessman, eating pancakes. Which is actually really accurate, but I see it in a different fashion. Once the trade was done I took a whiff and I initially thought “that user was more than correct and I’m gonna have to use as a layering component“. Upon spraying it again today, I have to say that my nose told me you can wear this by itself and here’s why. Imagine you’re in a very important business meeting, very formal, it’s actually about to start. When one of your more successful colleagues walk in, greeting everybody he seems chipper, and there’s an open seat next to you. As soon as he sits down, you’re immediately able to tell that he’s there to be make a staple in this meeting, and he’s also had a good breakfast. You could tell that he had some good old-fashioned pancakes. And you think to yourself “how is he so successful”,” how does he smell so good”, “flapjacks do sound really good right now”. That is this smell. I know this is long and this is my first review, but I just thought it was necessary.

I had 10ml of this and struggled with it. Still don’t know if I like it or not. Such potent juice, sticks around for ages. It’s a gourmand, but not straight up sweet. I can see the appeal as it’s more versatile. I get the maple syrup with pancakes idea. There is an also a very recognisable dna to it that I could put my finger on it. I can see how people can love it, but it’s not a FB for me.

New Haarlem “Insert Speedo by the Cadillacs” I disliked this fragrance at first sniff, but like most of my B9 collection, it has sat in my nightstand for over a year. My last review was Chez Bond and while these fragrances are completely different, my nose is sensitive to green notes at the moment. Initially I did not notice anything green about this fragrance, but tonight is different… New Haarlem opens with lavender, and a touch of citrus and green notes. The transition from top to middle happens within the first 5 minutes of application and you are met with woody notes and coffee notes. The Tonka, Coffee and Vanilla gives the fragrance a mocha/maple vibe that is sensual and sexy. Then the patchouli sets in and adds a little more character to the fragrance. I would wear New Haarlem primarily in Fall, but also in the Winter, night or day does not matter here. This fragrance is date night appropriate, trips to the mall, grocery store and bar friendly. New Haarlem is perfectly unisex to me. It does not lean too feminine or masculine. Grab a sample, come back and give me your honest review. In my writeups, I prefer not to talk about cost. Most fragrances are too expensive at retail, but between the gray market and second hand “buy and release” options, price is totally subjective. This smells like a handsome businessman grabbing a plate of maple syrup drenched pancakes and a steaming mug of dark coffee on the way to work in a high rise. It’s quite intoxicating.

The note breakdown states that the openings are lavender, bergamot, and green leaves. However, this is different from what I get on the initial spray. Once I spray my skin, all I smell is a bomb of maple syrup and pancakes. And this is what the opening is to me. Only after about 5 minutes, once the sweetness calms, can I smell one of the middle notes: coffee. So, after about the fifth-minute mark, you are left with a complete breakfast that lasts for about a whole hour. After the hour mark, I began to get a woody note from the cedar listed as a mid-note. This woody note adds a subtle, earthy undertone to the sweet breakfast scent. After about four hours, the dry-down finally hits, adding vanilla, tonka, and amber. The dry-down is the final stage of the fragrance, where the top and middle notes have melded, leaving a lingering base of warm, sweet vanilla, Tonka, and amber, creating a creamy feel from the scent. The scent lasts on my skin for about 9 hours, which is great for wearing out for the whole day.

smells quite synthetic with a heavy vanilla undertone. if you’re expecting the scent of freshly brewed coffee this isnt rlly it. instead it smells more like what coffee might smell like if you were trying to recall it from memory. distant and a tad bit artificial and more of an impression than the real thing

I'm sure this has been said before and I won't be the last to say it but now I get to shout it from the rooftops since Bond had the good sense to bring this masterpiece back: I smell like lavender pancake syrup! This is perhaps one of the best perfumes ever created. Maurice I could just give you a big forehead smooch for creating this intoxicating blend of notes. There's been many that attempted but none that have ever come close to being this good. I have an older bottle and be still my heart as I go reading reviews in hopes that they didn't tweak the formula too much. If I hear good things I'll be putting a backup bottle of this on the wishlist for Christmas. This also smells like how you imagine a vanilla latte to taste as a child from it's creamy sweet smell. Then you finally taste it and it's not what you imagined. But with this perfume you can turn back time and still smell like keeping the dream alive. And when a perfume smells this intoxicating there's no reason to delegate it to a season, a time of day, an occasion. We could all only dream that life should always smell this good.

Great fall/winter scent, very reminiscent of Rochas man intense with higher quality and better performance. Imagine sweet syrupy warm baked goods that gets better the more it dries down. A bit heavy on the lavender which can be a tad cloying at times. Hardly any coffee, I wish there was more in there but I suppose this way it's more wearable and versatile for most settings. I'm glad this is now becoming readily available for purchase but still overpriced in my opinion. If this was $75-100 it would be an absolute steal. Amazing performance, it follows you around all day with just 2-3 sprays.
