Viking

This one is more for the connoisseurs I think. A scent that I find exquisitely refined but with perhaps just enough of a touch for the everyday fella! Anyone who thinks this is generic or cheap smelling also thinks McDonald's is top grade cuisine and reality TV is the height of sophistication. 😳 It's all the things listed, Fragantica got this one right! There's elements of citrus freshness, aromatic spices, green notes and florals with a base of musky, woody lavender on my skin, and vetiver of course. One of the best ingredients when it has that slight astringent smokiness that delicately caresses your nose. 😆 The contrasting notes are just blended so masterfully, as you'd expect from any brand at this price point but especially Creed, no worries in that department! Although initially it's fresh spice and mint come on strong it eventually settles to not only those notes but a deeper mixture containing all the other essences and nuances. Once you know the Viking profile you'll always be instantly alerted to it's presence, for me there isn't another perfume that's close enough as yet, no matter how many have tried. There is no substitute for this one! Initially, on application it'll smoke out a room but in minutes it sits back and stays a little over my preferred arms length for 5-7 hours, gradually becoming intimate towards the latter stages. General opinion seems to agree this is a masculine scent, absolutely spot on I think but wear what you want. No one cares and if they do then that's their problem. Do what makes you happy 😊 and comfortable. Definitely for the older man in my minds eye, probably 30+ and with discerning taste. Having said that, if your relatively new to fragrance and just want one high quality scent that does it all, here you go! Certainly an all year scent, pepper, cloves, all spice, absinthe and more to cut through the chillier days while the citruses, rose and of course mint come alive in the heat. Cleverly done and just so effective. It's a classic for a reason! Wear this anywhere you like. It's got so much style and panache that it can't fail to get positive attention for all the right reasons. If anything it's too good to wear for menial chores or office duties! Enough performance for a full day or night.....just, but not both without a further top up. Viking creates an inviting, elegant personal hue with a stunning sillage that'll leave a trail of envy and admiration in your wake. As with most Creeds (definitely not Oud Zarian, and to a lesser extent Centaurus and Delphinus) it could always do with a bit more longevity and perhaps 5-10% more oomph. Especially for the price! But it's acceptable and nothing more. It's saving grace is quite simply it's beautiful, distinctive and easily recognisable high quality aroma. As it should be for any high end perfumery. I've owned this for several months but held back my review as I wanted to see if the rumours of maturation with Creed were true. I can confirm that this is the case for sure. Not massive improvement but still noticeable, not only all round performance but it feels less muddled than it was when purchased, smoother even. As always, money is an important consideration. Especially when it comes to luxury purchases. If you can comfortably afford Viking then I think the value is reasonable but only when discounted, never pay the RRP! However, if things are not quite that easy right now it's not that important. I'd wait until things are better and cash is a little more abundant. It'll still be around and isn't going anywhere. Truly wonderful as part of any collection and a brilliant fragrance for the man that wants a one and done. I think this fragrance is legendary.

8.7/10 Medicinal, herbal, peppery, spicy. I was not expecting this to smell as traditional as it does. I like it, it's nice, but if you told me this scent was from a 1980s £20 cologne, I would believe you.

This does not smell like Old Spice, it smells like Big Red Gum. Then it dries down to a very nice aromatic, woody, and pleasantly spicy fougere. Intentionality was exercised when constructing this fragrance - it's so technical and well-composed. Like, I can tell Oliver Creed had a vision for what he wanted this fragrance to be. The initial blast is a lot to handle - between the mint, pepper, and spices like clove and allspice (so much allspice), this literally smells like what Big Red tastes like as you're chewing it. After 20-30 minutes, classic fougere aromatics join the party, and Viking becomes slightly sweet, woody, and actually fresh and airy. This is nice! I detect zero smoke here, but there's a nice musk, and dusty and earthy vetiver note that helps ground this profile. You have to get past the opening to really judge Viking - it transforms very nicely and quite dramatically. The profile is mature, masculine, clean, and not casual, nor formal, so I don't end up reaching for it too often. It's also a bit old school, even though this was released less than 10 years ago. Unfortunately for me, I just don't have too many situations when I would wear this, which is why I don't "love" it. If I loved it, I'd find opportunities for it. 8.2/10 - be patient with this one. Side note: this seems like a nice and appropriate fragrance to wear while golfing with the homies. Maybe I'd wear it more if I did that.🤷

Fragrantica labeling masculinity as a "con" on every MEN'S fragrance is so damn annoying.

I might have an unsophisticated nose, but I think this smells nothing like old spice original. In fact, I prefer the aftershave to this.

Opening smells a bit like eggnog. Dry down gets abit smoky. Would be good for fall and winter. Reviews say this smells like fancy old spice but i get more of a smoky Fougère smell from it. Its alright but I dont think its worth the price.

I'm going to make this short and sweet. Not everyone is going to like this fragrance but It just vibes with me . It is a modern fougere that every gentleman should experience.

Who tf is still saying it smells like old spice?? Old spice is an entirely different animal it’s sharp it’s spicy and a very classic fougere that though doesn’t necessarily smell expensive but holds its own place as one of the all time masculine classics which was surely used by grandfathers of many individuals reading this to pull women back in the day. Now coming to the review which ya’ll started reading for in the first place: the rather wrongly named Creed Viking. There’s nothing Viking about it by the way, nothing macho, none of that alpha male crap aventus got popular for(aventus ain’t bad but its popularity and reformulations ruined the magic). This one’s not a fougere either from what I could understand by my experience with countless fragrances including countless fougeres(one of my favourite genres is fougere btw). This is a rose perfume. One of the very few fragrances men can wear without smelling like they borrowed their whatever partner or sister or mom’s rose perfume or someone who bought a rose fragrance cuz they heard “perfumes are unisex”. This one genuinely smells like a masculine rose. The foundation is rose, and it uses just enough warm spices and citruses to make it feel deep, elegant manly, yet keep it a rose-first fragrance. The warm spices and citrus notes are borrowed from the idea of a fougere hence it’s completely understandable for many people to think it’s a fougere. All that “aristocratic” association maybe yeah it can be considered that way cuz it’s a good quality, well blended understated fragrance with depth and it doesn’t perform aggressively either which is actually good for such kinda compositions cuz otherwise they’d be headache inducing, for peak elegance any oud or incense or leather perfume may smell good if it performs aggressively, but when it comes to understated scent profiles such as this, a bit of softer performance is appreciated imho, and despite me almost always being disappointed with most creeds cuz they’re often a bit too weak, this one still performs decent (though not too strong, but still better than other Creed freshies/aromatics) which actually suits it. I can’t see myself liking this if this were beast mode or whatever. Also just a thought, for any oud-rose lover who specifically likes the rose sweetness paired with the oud providing depth which can at times be associated with masculine appeal, for example someone who loves LV ombre nomade, for such individuals Viking can be used as another rose fragrance if they want something lighter and easygoing. This thing works in all seasons, it’s light enough to be used in peak heat (where I’m from, the temperature here gets hot enough to let you fry an egg if you keep a pan in the open for a little while, I know many of you guys from all over the world who live in warmer regions might understand). Masculine leaning fragrance but can also be easily used by women for upscale occasions for a darker aura. It’s excellent, not a must have unless you’re a rose lover or collector with 30-40 or more fragrances. Blind buying not recommended, cuz even I blind bought this expecting something fougere but it turned out to be something very different though still decent. Test this first, both on skin and clothing, the development might be a bit different on both, sometimes the citrusy facets are a bit more prominent on skin. Edit: can’t believe how well it grew on me, it’s super versatile and words can’t explain how gorgeous it smells in the air, it’s inoffensive in the classiest and the poshest way possible. I’m genuinely delighted to have this. Ordered 2 more bottles considering how much i think i can see myself using this. Nothing too extraordinary or dramatic but the “ease of use” is genuinely impressive and this level of simplicity is honestly hard to achieve. Good job Creed. God bless

A masterpiece that I'm 100% sure hasn't yet been fully appreciated. I won't go into a long review; it's an unparalleled fragrance for a man. An aristocratic scent with deliberately reduced sillage. I recommend it to men who understand that perfume is just one of the important elements for a sophisticated man. In other words, perfume doesn't become you; it becomes a tiny part of you.

I totally get the Old Spice vibes. But this is just purely masculine. Like a 6'6" 260 pound gladiator type of masculine. One of the few masculine rose fragrances. If Aventus didn't exist, this would take its place as the best Creed fragrance in my opinion.

I don't understand why so many people praise this fragrance's performance. After getting a sample, I found that it becomes a skin scent after about half an hour, with very weak sillage. It's a masculine aromatic fragrance. The sweetness is moderate in the opening, and the dry down is quite different from the opening. It definitely carries the Creed DNA. Sadly, at this price point, I don't think it's worth it. The scent isn't particularly unique and doesn't bring anything new to the table. I believe there are plenty of designer fragrances that cost much less and deliver a very similar vibe, especially fragrances from the Terre d'Hermès line.

A traditional masculine cologne reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s. Some people erroneously associate it with Barbasol, but Barbasol is actually extremely, linearly powdery a la Prada Luna Rossa Black. Viking is much closer to Gillette, which is spicy, rich, and woody. It does bear a modest resemblance to Old Spice cologne, but lacks the aldehydic top (for which I am grateful, as I am not a huge fan of aldehydes). The spearmint note is quite addicting, and will leave you feeling fresh and clean. I believe it’s worth it to own a bottle if you can find it cheap (or can find a clone you like), provided that you are a fan of the genre. I would rate it 4/5 stars. Anything less seems too harsh, but anything more seems too gracious.

Green, minty, spicy, aromatic. Some Indian clones with some slight twist are better than the original. Not in replicating, but making the original even more likeable. Sad but true.

Viking is a classic “cologne” smell. Sweet, aromatic, fougere, masculine and rough around the edges. It’s such a well made and classic perfume, and is one of the best from the house of Creed.

I got a 100ml for about 1/2 off retail online after trying a 2ml decant and finishing a 10ml sample. Reminds me of Old Spice, and lasts a long time, especially on clothes. This is a great scent to spray your hoodies with before giving to your s/o. Good for date nights but also office friendly as long as you don't use too much. This is a pretty loud scent, only one or two sprays needed to last all day with good projection, so 100ml will last me a good while.

I do not yet own this fragrance but I tried it yesterday and absolutely fell in love. Online reviews repeatedly called it a more refined old spice. I never sensed that. It distinctly smells like pine sap to me even tho pine is not even listed as a note. Spice is there but not the way I was led to anticipate. Initially I would have agreed that this and the cologne do not smell alike at all. However, after the drydown the similarity was noticeable. If dua scarlet warrior is not a good clone I will take the hit and pay for this. To me, it was signature scent worthy for its unique masculinity alone.

Barbasol aftershave barbershop peppermint lemon. Doesn’t last long on me. Smells like aftershave. If I was 58 and going to church I would wear this. I appreciate what it is, but the decant I got is more than enough. Most will not enjoy this. Even older guys there are much better options.

This is a version of Sauvage that I get get behind. Similar dna in the opening (with a touch of barbershop).Sauvage is too much pepper on my nose and gives me a headache all day. This is toned down with more aromatics. Very nice fresh scent

That first 30-40 minutes are so good. Aromatic, fresh but also warm, sweet and spicy. Nice creamy muskiness in the base too. It's sort of a mature scent, kind of reminds me of an old guy but it doesn't fully go in that direction. There is something in there that reminds me of gardening soil also lol Unfortunately it becomes very weak, very quickly. Beast mode Viking would be so awesome. I haven't smelled old spice in years so I wouldn't be able to comment on any similarity between the two.

I absolutely love this scent, it opens with a classic aromatic fougere scent, verging slightly on being a bit dated - but settles into these rich spicy florals - tobacco isn't a listed note but I feel like I smell it here anyway, it eventually mellows out to a creamy tonka-bean dry down, but even still holds onto the aromatic heart and the core of it all. The balance this walks feels like it shouldn't work but it absolutely knocks it out of the park. Genuinely a masterpiece of to me, type of scent that justifies Creed's status in the industry. I sort of get the Old Spice comparisons, but to me the Old Spice OG is a lot more powdery, lacks depth, and doesn't last at all. Creed Viking is the fully realized, leveled up version. This is a 24/7 year-round scent to me, great for any season - best in fall or spring though, there are just better seasonal-specific options or the peak of summer or winter. This is 100% signature-scent worthy, the scent profile leans mature - but I'm a young guy myself and I don't think it is nearly as old man-ish as the original polo green or paco robanne pour homme. I think it is suitable for basically any event/occasion too, but I think you do it service by dressing up with it. I've found that it lasts for quite a long time as well with decent strength. I wouldn't say it's a blind-buy friendly scent (and who would, at this price???) but if you're a fan of aromatic fougeres I do truly see this as the peak of the entire class of fragrances. Once I'm able to get my hands on a bottle, this will be my new signature scent! Honestly a good chance that once I get it I might entirely fall out of the hobby altogether, that's how good this is. Absolutely love this, second 10/10 I'm giving to any fragrance I've tried.

The peppermint in this truly does wonders.. It's not your typical barbershop.. it's a zingy spicy fougere that is fresh, it's more heavy than it is light, it can be worn all year, every occasion, and it's a sophisticated "bad boy" sort of thing. Has nothing to do with vintage Old Spice.. I don't know how that correlation even occurred..

My favorite from the house. This is a spicy, masculine neo-fougère, packed full of accords, substantive without being heavy. This is an all-season, 24/7 anytime anywhere fragrance. If you owned only one, this could suffice. L'Oréal bought Creed last month for 4 billion euros. I fear they’ll gut the distinctiveness and start launching banal crowd-pleasers and phase out the classics. So I snagged a backup of Viking. I hope we’re not soon to witness the Fall of the House of Creed.

i mean i love old spice and this stuff resembles it but there is some alchoholic dirty weed note that is dominating it and ruins everything. comparing this stuff to old spice is a criminal offence.

In my opinion, it smells like old spice. Open and shut. Yes it is distinctly niche and creed, but it smells like old spice, albeit very refined. Maybe otherwise a hot tomale, or like fireball whiskey. I think this is harder to wear than average, but only because this scent comes off as mature to myself. Yes to office scent. Very masculine. I see this fitting an older gentleman better over a younger guy. Good: Classic scent with a mature profile. Cool name. Versatile for the most part. Office safe. Bad: Can come off as dated. Will come off as old spice. I can see it being a 6-8/10 for the right guy. To me, it is a 4/10 because of the distinct association with old spice. You have to smell it to understand what I mean. This makes a niche fragrance feel very linear, dated, and boring. I don't want to rap on it too hard because it has a lot of great elements to it, but I would definitely not blind buy this or you could end up disappointed that your multi-hundred dollar purchase smells like cheap soap.

Creed #5 – Best in class spicy aromatic, full bottle worthy. Off the bat, Creed Viking is one of my best discoveries and quiet possibly one of my favourite scents so needless to say, we are probably looking at a full bottle purchase in the future. Taking my taste in consideration and how the scent develops on my skin and to my nose, Viking is one of the best spicy aromatics my money can buy. Is it worth Creed money? Thats a subjective thing, i personally couldn’t pay that but for the price of around 150 dollars tester bottles go for on facebook groups, its worth it for me. Its a multilayered perfume and thats surprising given that complexity is often a trait of deep, much warmer and artistic creations and Viking is a perfumey perfume. The opening is represented by a bold spicy mint and a soft but warm clove that gives it an almost brewed-tea like quality. Mint is one of my all time favourite notes and i get my fill of it in Viking. The warmth of the scent gives it the complexity and to me thats what elevates it to a higher class then the usual aromatics. In the drydown it loses some of its intensity and spark, loses the freshness and transitions into a sweeter, softer-spicy scent with the tea-like quality taking over. I never got to smell the original Old Spice so i don’t know how close Viking is to it hence why i personally cannot give negative points based on the fact that it has similarities to a more affordable and common product. Maybe if i did, my enthusiasm for Viking would have been less, but as it is, i analyse it by itself and what it brings to the table for me. I have to mention that the scentprofile does have a classic feel to it but its more “old money” then oldschool, more on that below. In terms of worldbuilding and the name of the fragrance, its unsuccesfull in that regard but if i squint my eyes i can see the imagery of the Viking world, only during “peaceful” times. I rather see the image of the warmer green pastures they settled in England and the cultural habits they exhibited within the boundries of their homes. The perfume doesn’t transmit the agressive portrayal of the viking culture we often see in media entertainment. It lacks the grit and aggresiveness i associate with those sort of depictions. How true that representation is, that’s a different story altho i do not question it eighter because as they say, there’s no smoke without fire. I just don’t see that in the perfume and if anything, Bianchi’s oakmoss-heavy Etruscan Water better fits the viking thematic. I see people label Viking as a mature or oldschool perfume. Its a subjective thing because compared to modern creations that came out in the past couple of years it could be seen so but in my eyes its a timeless scent and it doesn’t make me think of truly outdated scents. Current designer perfumery is like fast food but don’t take that as a negative, i myself am a fast food guy. Fast food is something i associate with the modern world due to its ready availability, relative affordableness and addicting flavor. Do you consider going to a restaurant and eating a complex meal that takes an hour to prepare and is cooked by a proper chef as an oldschool experience? If so then Creed Viking will also be oldschool to you. Do you appreciate the finer things, done with thought, patience and carefulness? If so then Viking will suit your taste. There is no wrong or right mentality in this scenario. Its just tastes, intent and most importantly a time and place because everything has that.

Nice but not distinctive. I appreciate the citrus opening and floral mid. I don’t get mint. The floral is generic to me so I’m either losing my nose or it’s indistinct. The base and prominent component after the first hour is very nice woody base with a mild musk. Inoffensive. Easy for the office. Not bold or Viking like. Not appreciated by others. Small projection. Decent 5-6 hour length.

Just Creed being Creed. Yawn Get it if you like cinnamon hotballs, I guess. It's just the regular Creed juice recipe with that added.

Very powerful feeling cologne. My allergies to Jasmine make it hard for me to fully appreciate this scent, but the masculine projection of woods and spice have netted me several compliments.
