I think is one of my favorites scents in the world. If you are connected with whimsical and witchy vibes or femme fatal aura, this is how you want to smell…

I'm a gothy girlie on a quest for a signature black licorice/anise scent. This perfume, on paper strip, opened TERRIBLY, then after drying down, that all faded. It turned into a clear and lovely licorice note, with some vanilla and tonka notes underneath. As it settled, the scent read as "powdery and soft" + licorice. I'm hoping to find a scent that has a bit more spice to it, and I don't love powdery smells. I may revisit this perfume depending on the results of some other ones on my list. I agree with others that this perfume is dark and whimsical; at the same time, to me it's what a spooky person wears for brunch, a cheerful daytime shopping trip and tea with a friend, or maybe for babysitting. Not a seductive vibe to me at all. ...May be different on skin?

The reviews are bizarre…. Someone tried to be funny by saying this smells like a cats ass. To that person I’ll just say this: I truly don’t think your nose is distinguished enough to describe a fragrance made by a master perfumer as “cats ass”. Now please have several seats and refrain from writing pointless reviews. That being said: this perfume is the perfect whimsical, gothic potion. It truly embodies the Poison line. Licorice takes center stage, almost resembling sour cherries. Despite the thick vanilla and almond notes, it dries down to a beautiful, warm powdery base that lingers for weeks on wool coats and scarfs. It’s doesn’t suit most people, but on someone who pulls off the appropriate aesthetic and carries a certain aura, this can be magical.

This may seem strange, but for me Hypnotic Poison EDP is the lighter and more daytime friendly version compared to the denser and thicker EDT. I think that it is the licorice note that brightens it up, breaking the sweet and compact almond-vanilla base. Jasmine and orange blossom also shines through, balancing up the sticky scent of play doh. On me the EDT and the EDP are very similar in the dry down, the sandalwood and tonka bean have the same mulled dryness on skin. The EDP does however not project or last as long as the EDT, but I love them both and I am happy to be able to wear them on different occasions and in different seasons.

At first, I tried a very old and macerated batch; it was dark and creamy, a bit like play-dough but very womanly. I tried it on myself again in Sephora today and immediately regretted it. Both on skin and paper, it smells like grape candy, white flowers and a cat's ass.

I see no darkness and no power in it. Probably it was in the original one. The scent is very easy to wear for every day. Not sure if it is appealing to anyone younger than 30. To me it is subtle yet charming.

Unfortunately this one smells like a plastic dolls head in the opening on my skin! When it dries down, it changes, and the notes blend together more seamless-ly. Definitely not for everyone, i can see the allure, but still not my favourite.

Smells like a dirty night out in London hopping clubs but still somewhat classy, probably one of my favourite fragrances that I never get to wear. Its a very controversial one but that just adds to its allure imo so sultry yet untouchable and men either love it or despise it, also gives me hungry Jennifer Check on prom night vibes!!

This is a strong fragrance! Lasts for days on my clothes. It's a very sweet, very powdery scent. Im not sure yet if I like the powder yet, Im still trying it out. It's a beast to be sure.

Appena spruzzato sul mio polso la versione del 2016 con il nastro attorno al collare. Profumo di anice immersa nell'uva fragolina, (o anche ciliegia, cassis,fragole ), l'effetto è medicinale, ha un tocco sulfureo di sottofondo,amaro e piccante ma molto cupo. Non rilevo presenza di alcun fiore. Completamente diverso dall'eau de toilette originale, appena finisce l'effetto del fruttato iniziale (che però non va mai via completamente),resta un odore strano e confuso, difficilmente distinguibile. Difficile sentire la vaniglia o le mandorle,il bouquet resta incomprensibile,un po dolce e un po amaro,sulfureo,medicinale. Addosso esala l'aroma di uva fragola, fragoline e frutti rossi. Non riesco a sentirlo come un profumo vampiresco ne da strega. La prima versione (col laccetto nero attorno al collare) è decisamente migliore rispetto alle versioni seguenti,dal 2017 in poi. Questa ha un bouquet molto piu elaborato,profondo,si sentono aspetti attraenti che ti spingono a sentirlo ancora e poi ancora,tra lo sciroppo medicinale,il cumino,la liquirizia,il fruttato scuro bordeaux in cui è immerso lo sciroppo,incuriosisce, incanta e dura molto di piu sulla pelle. Non mi piaceva più di tanto e lo ho trascurato per anni,non corrispondeva a qualcosa che mi aspettavo nella mia mente. Ora in effetti lo vivo con molta spensieratezza; non è qualcosa di oscuro e di vampiresco ma un profumo quasi giocoso,un po infantile,con queste note di fragoline che si mescolano allo sciroppo medicinale, a quel qualcosa di sulfureo,amaro,è così diverso dai profumi che indosso abitualmente che mi piace la sensazione che mi da,ambigua, sfuggente,quasi a sfottere chi mi sta intorno.

I... don't know how to feel about this one. Since the EDP concentration of Hypnotic Poison was released and I read up the notes on Fragrantica, I wanted a bottle desperately - only to not be able to find it until now. Not that it's discontinued or anything, just not sold in my country. Well, I finally got my hands on it from a reputable source and... admittedly, I find it rather underwhelming. I was expecting a deep, dark, boozy vanilla covered in powdery almonds with some added sweetness from the tonka beans, and I was strangely excited by the so-called "play-dough" note that keeps appearing in the reviews below mine. But what I get is not quite the same. It's lighter than I was hoping for - both in concentration and in character; I get no play-dough, and I get something almost a little sour... like the concoction was laced with sour cherries but they somehow left that out in the notes. It doesn't feel authentically vamp or goth, rather it feels like someone tried to capsulate that energy but was too afraid to go all-in, so they just settled for what would still be interesting in the designer world, but mass-appealing. Maybe Dior did what Dior does and nuked the recent formulation... I've also noticed that the notes are married together in such a way that makes it hard to individually point them out, and that I typically don't love that in my fragrances, but that's just personal preference. I had a similar reaction to the very perfume-y L'Absolu by Narciso Rodriguez, but then grew to appreciate it - so maybe the same will happen here. Only time can tell!

The only way you can go wrong when choosing Hypnotic Poison edp is if you’re not well dressed and made up. This perfume, about which everything has already been said, demands special treatment and respect. It is the fragrance of the seductress, of the woman who respects herself and knows exactly how things are done. Even a woman who isn’t the greatest beauty will shine when she wears it. If the Italians invented beauty, then Dior invented seduction.

Hypnotic Poison EDT is a vanilla scented plastic toy. Hypnotic Poison EDP, however, deserves her name. She is an almond syrupy liquor. The slightly bitter one, the one teens don’t like. She is surrounded by an incense haze, as you presume she is blessed by mystical entities. She smells like vanilla and orange blossom but the dark ones, the ones you are not sure you are allowed to smell. She is mesmerizing yet not so strange, pretty inviting actually. You are drown to her, just to know how she smells when you come closer. And it was the whole plan.

im pleased with its drydown but it projects this smell similar to musty sweat during the first couple of minutes of wear, it is definitely darker than the edt and im hoping letting the bottle sit for longer would make that smell dissipate as it now lasts longer on me after storing it for several weeks. that smell im talking about may be coming from the jasmine but the combination of licorice, vanilla and almond prevents me from disliking this. it's a decent sweet fragrance i can totally see myself wearing regularly but that is what's holding me back from doing so

I second what’s been said before. I used to have the EDT YEARS ago and while I don’t know the old formulation of the EDP (unfortunately) I do have the current formulation and it definitely smells almost identical to the EDT but lighter for some reason as it fades quick on the skin.

I love this perfume my ex taught me what a dominatrix wears it.

one of my favourite perfumes oat, specifically the edp i find it just has that bitter dark note that im looking for. a super gothic, sexy and mysterious fragrance. the vanilla and nut notes smell amazing and the tonka gives it a nice depth to make this super deep enveloping scent. the longevity and sillage is amazing and it lasts forever on clothing atleast 3-4 days minimum i have found. another thing i enjoy is, there are not as many dupes of the edp specifically so it's great for a signature scent that you want to feel truly unique. i find it to be feminine leaning but can be unisex (i find it smells like joop homme slightly). it's a super addictive scent and one i always reach for and is easy to scent layer and you can lean into different aspects of the gourmand notes for an even more unique scent. it does however to me feel like a strict nighttime winter/autumn fragrance (that will however not stop me from wearing it) and does not work the best in high heat or humidity. to me it evokes the image of a tall independant woman, very sleek, mysterious and commands all eyes to her, a scent that radiates confidence and a unique story.

The orange blossom pairs nicely with the licorice and almonds. It is very beautiful on but light in winter. It used to be more licorice on me, now it is much more floral. The bottle with the seal is stunning and applying it from the apple is such a feminine experience. A pity it is so close to the skin. The classic has more projection.

I used to wear this back in college and loved it because it was so sweet, creamy and warm. I remember getting a lot of compliments on it. Later, I was gifted the regular Hypnotic Poison EDT to replace it but I never liked it very much as I find it too strong and at times cloying. The EDP felt much more balanced and toned down on me, darker and warmer. Haven't seen it or smelled it in a while, I wonder if I still enjoy it.

This is the perfume the 3 sisters in Resident Evil 8 Village would wear. Or the 3 vampire wives in Dracula. Absolutely stunning sweet, dark and sexy. edit: haha so funny the review below saying same thing I posted this on the other Hypnotic Poison page, thinking it is the EDP, turns out it is EDT so I moved my comment here as EDP and EDT are very different, EDT is softer and more cozy, I don't get much danger from it. EDP however....

I remember the first time I tried this on, expecting just a version of the edt that lasts longer and it was a shock , I was like wtf did I just spray , and I loved it, it’s like a very dark version of the edt that’s punchier and more fun, The edt has the smell of vanilla cake this one, it’s very pleasant and safe, this still had a little bit of that but it’s much edgier, makes you want to wear a leather jacket. But as it dries down I’m surprised to also see it becomes very sensual and soft, I think that’s why it’s nice for evening wear, because as the night winds down it has just a very nice and relaxing smell I’m pretty selective on which perfumes I buy because I don’t want to have a 50 bottle collection but this definitely made it in

Can only find the EDT version now and it's definetly not the same. I need the EDP!!!
