A realistic coffee scent! But it does have a mustiness of an espresso machine that hasn't been cleaned anytime recently. It's not sweet like a Starbucks coffee drink or coffee ice cream. It's the whole coffee shop, bitter grounds and all. A metallic note does surface and is kind of acrid. Half gourmand, half industrial. Pretty mature. Might be triggering to some former baristas.

Smells like I am not the person drinking an espresso, but the espresso machine itself, and not in a good way. Very strong, burnt, but realistic, coffee accord. I think I might not like coffee in my perfumes, so I'm a biased hater. :P

It smells straight up like plain coffee. It avoided a zero solely because it is intensely different, unique, photorealistic and very strong.

Follow is pure nostalgia captured in a bottle. I’ve been a fan of coffee notes since I was an 8-year-old boy. I can distinctly remember going to Whole Foods with my grandparents and smelling all the different blends and styles of coffee. This scent takes me back to that first sense of discovery. A bitter ground coffee in the opening, followed by a smooth vanilla with a hint of amber and sap. My first niche fragrance. Excited to try more from Kerosene.

7/10 At the scent bar in NYC they literally can’t spray it in the store cos it’s so strong LMFAO?? Had a nice coffee smell that was realistic for a second, but something as slightly off, maybe a bit too old and dusty scent fr me

Reading the reviews below, seems some are a bit confused. Follow is a strong coffee fragrance with nuances of sweetness. Definitely more resinous. Check the notes on Kerosene's website: there is no maple syrup listed in the notes. (Sap=not maple syrup). Followed is the syrupy, caramel based coffee scent. Regardless, coffee fans need to check them both out, with completely different expectations for each. Both undoubtedly have a high percentage of natural coffee. For coffee purists: Follow is the clear choice. Make no mistake, there is nothing straightforward about any Kerosene offering, and this is one of them. I personally love the resinous quality of Follow and find it to be incredibly complex, especially upon drydown.

Wore this to bed the other night and loved it. A true coffee smell with the perfect amount of sweetness from the maple. Dry down is pretty and sweet in a cozy way. Love this one

Fucking horrible shit, i'd rather wear bleach!

FOLLOW opens strongly of French roast coffee, I’m transported into a mid-2000’s Starbucks where the lighting is dimly light warm and the walls are wood paneled. Maybe I just dreamed that’s what Starbucks use to be like. This fragrance transmuted down to a caramel / maple sugary sweetness before settling into a clove note. Which I believe to be a Tonka Bean note. Maybe it’s the amber and benzoin mixed with that clove spice that reminded me of opening a pack of cedar wood planks that you hang in your closet. This is where other users report ‘old books’ with their coffee. Follow is nuclear, a long lasting fragrance. Compared to FOLLOWED this scent packs more of a spice than just performing on the caramel ribbon Frappuccino scent. FOLLOW is more suitable for daily wear in public spaces, FOLLOWED is exactly what the name suggests in longevity and sillage, however both of these fragrances will FOLLOW you.

I was in pure ecstasy at first with the photo realistic coffee bean scent, until it became more resinous. I usually like a bit more antique-y smells but this was more of an old, pissy antique smell.. the sweetness from the maple syrup comes and goes but never becomes overwhelming. It’s not terrible but I wish the coffee beans could’ve stayed.

Follow opens up with a realistic coffee scent, but that quickly dries down to a very cardamom & fenugreek smelling note. I WISH that that meant it smelled like maple syrup on me (fenugreek can smell like maple) but the scent muddies up on my skin chemistry and just smells intensely of curry, which I love to eat but don't want to smell of all day. I'll give this another try when the weather cools down and review again then. I wanted to love this one soo bad after reading the intense coffee scent reviews, so I'll give it another chance but for now it's not for me.

I've recently dug up my treasure trove of old samples - ah, nostalgia in a box!! This means I've forgotten what anything was "supposed to smell like" for the most part. With Follow, I got of course the realistic BLAST of (French roast, not my fav) coffee, but also...whiskey?? Am I the only one who's getting whiskey? It sits close to my skin but this was from a LuckyScent dabber sample so I was very sparing in my application of it. Will come back w/ updates if I remember... -5/24/26

After reading the tales about Followed's beast mode, I was a bit wary of this. The opening leans a bit too far into the cup of burnt, bitter coffee that's been standing abandoned in the break room for days now for me, but it doesn't last nearly as long as I had anticipated from Kerosene's reputation and some other samples of theirs I got in the same order (One spray of Blackmail on a tester strip inside a closed trash bin - my whole flat smelled like it for days). After the harsh coffee opening fades, 1-2 hours later I get a little hint of it turning sweeter, then it disappears completely on me.

I got a sample of it for free when I made a larger sample order. The vial wasn’t tightly closed and my whole bathroom smells like it! I can’t stand it, it’s nauseatingly sweet, makes me think of a dusty store with alcohol-filled chocolates.

I want to try this

Heading over to the House of Kerosene, and I’m looking forward to sharing these reviews. The brand Kerosene was founded by John Pegg, who first made a name for himself as a fragrance reviewer on YouTube under the name Kerosenetrewthe. The name “Kerosene” actually comes from an old music project he started years before launching the perfume line. It stuck with him and became the identity of the fragrance house. The brand takes inspiration from raw, industrial sources, including automotive influences and rugged materials, but the fragrances themselves remain very pleasant and approachable while still keeping a distinctive edge. Today, I’m exploring one of their most celebrated coffee-forward scents, Follow. The opening is well.. interesting but also quite nice. It smells like slightly burnt ground coffee left in a paper filter for a few hours, capturing that familiar warmth and subtle bitterness. After about twenty to thirty minutes, the fragrance softens and becomes sweeter. The sharpness of the coffee mellows into a comforting warmth of benzoin, with soft hints of caramel and a touch of spice. Even as it develops, the dry coffee note lingers in the background, keeping that signature coffee character alive. After about an hour and a half, Follow transitions into a vanillin-amber drydown with a touch of resinous depth, yet the grounded coffee note remains for the entire life of the scent. The fragrance is somewhat linear aside from these subtle shifts, but that linearity is part of its charm. If you enjoy the opening, you’ll likely enjoy wearing Follow all the way through. The subtle shifts in the heart, with hints of amber and spice, add interest without taking away from the coffee. For anyone who loves coffee fragrances and hasn’t tried this one yet, I would highly recommend it. This fragrance is a strong wake-up punch from start to finish, and it’s a great introduction to the House of Kerosene.

Photorealistic coffee. If you want to smell like it, you will enjoy it.

The first 30 minutes smells like day old used coffee grounds. But after a while the coffee note dissipates and you’re left with a beautiful vanilla scent.

Photorealistic coffee…if you want coffee as a scent, and not just a nuance, then this is the one…opens as roasted coffee beans and evolves into a slightly sweetened (maple sap) black coffee…strong in the longevity & sillage department…leans a little masculine IMO…very enjoyable, when I’m in the mood.

Follow smells like an upscale hipster coffee shop that is brewing espresso as you walk in behind a glass case of fancy sugary pastries. Followed smells like a small town diner that has a pot of black drip coffee keeping warm on the burner and a big plate of pancakes covered in maple syrup.

You can spend all day in busy coffee shop. Or just apply a couple sprays of this. No one will know the difference.

“Laws are like sausages. It is best not to see them being made.” John Pegg at Kerosene adds caramel to this list. The opening is like caramel bubbling away in a cast iron pan over charcoal given a healthy spray of charcoal lighting fluid. It is burnt, syrupy, vanillic, and you can smell the black carbon and the gray ash of charcoal, and the plasticky smelling ignition fluid. It is striking and bizarre to say the least. The heart contains a genuine accord of caramel sweetened espresso and cream. It is very well done but I found myself whinging and moaning nonetheless. Does anyone drink black coffee anymore? Are the Starbucks, Dunkin, and Dutch Bros. abominations so ubiquitous now that people genuinely believe that their barista-crafted beverage that is less than 25% coffee is actually what coffee tastes like? Follow isn’t coffee - it’s a caramel Frappuccino given an extra shot of espresso - oh my, an extra shot?! - how daring for the individual at counter #3. If this smelled like real coffee - a black espresso from good quality beans that are not over-roasted (cough, Starbucks) - it would have an acidic and fruity profile that stands out significantly against the burnt sugar/caramel note. But it doesn’t. The final skin scent goes back to the caramel and vanillics. As a caramel Frappuccino then, Follow is very nice. Though I spent a significant portion of this review complaining, let me be plain that I do like Follow quite a bit. As a caramel, vanilla, and coffee perfume it is one of the best ones I have smelled. Pegg’s signature style does this composition a lot of favors; by keeping a lot of air and space in the perfume, as Pegg does so well, these quite sweet notes never come across as too thick, too cloying, too sweet, or too lumpen. The entirety of the perfume - start to finish - feels light, and breathes and moves very well. However, I shall have to continue to wait for a perfume that actually smells of real, beautiful, pressure brewed, black coffee.

You're having breakfast at an old hotel in a foreign country on a foggy day. Half asleep at 5 a.m., you can't help but fixate on the pungent scent of coffee dripping to your left and the faint smell of spilled syrup on the table to your right. It has a very harsh and realistic coffee bean note but if you just give it a chance, you can find whispers of sweetness, especially in the dry down once it softens. Like most of Kerosene's fragrances, this is extremely strong. I have a 2 ml sample and occasionally catch whiffs of it in my room despite the vial being closed. Personally it's not something I would wear but it's something I definitely enjoy smelling when I crave the experience.

It smells like real coffee. I thought I'd love it but its so overpowering, want to try pairing it with something else. 6.5/10

Very dark ground coffee, maybe a bit stale, with a faint maple syrup undertone. That's it.

Dark, raw, pure coffee. The only coffee-scent on the market that actually just smells like coffee. Nothing more, nothing less. Performance is nuclear. Will last you all day.

Coffee... so dark and rich its hardly distinguishable from stale cigarette ash for the first twenty minutes, but then as with most fragrances from the house, that full throttle kerosene dna softens and reveals its magic trick, elevating the sweeter underlying facets to bring out the most beautiful, complex and photo-realistic coffee note, the kind you'd only get from huffing a bag of artisanal beans with a price tag that would make you cry even if it were on a used car.

Malboy, You definitely won’t like followed then.

The most photo-realistic dark coffee scent you would ever smell- Not full bottle worthy in my opinion, and really dark almost animalistic

This perfume smells exactly like a fresh bag of ground up coffee beans, the longevity is super good for the price and quite literally lasts you all day. Personally smelling like a fresh cup of coffee doesn’t really do it for me, I also get this odd chocolate note even tho it’s not in the scent profile that throws me off a bit. I do love this perfume house but not as found of this scent as I thought I would be based on the notes, overall glad I didn’t get the whole bottle and just a sample, definitely worth trying tho if you love coffee scents !!
