Recently found a 50ml of this for a stupidly low price (compared to Ebay) and this is GORGEOUS. I will say, contrary to popular opinion I am not really getting much similarity to LNDH from this at all. If anything it reminds me more of something like Eav des Bavx but even then it's not 1:1. The opening is this beautiful chord of strong lavender + tobacco + a very noticeable beeswax note. It can be a bit aggressive/medicinal, but I actually enjoy the smell. But where the fragrance shines is the drydown. As many other reviewers have pointed out, the drydown into this rich golden warm creamy elixir which is just lovely. It also gives me a sort of agrestic, slightly soapy, botanical L'Occitane-adjacent "French" vibe before the deep drydown which I'm very much here for. Performance is not nuclear by any means but I find it to project and last fairly well on my skin. At this point I don't really want my scents to be beast mode anyway. Overall it's a beautiful scent and it's a crying shame that Lanvin essentially stopped producing male fragrances. I used to own Arpege Pour Homme, which was lovely, and have tried Oxygene, Eclat d'Arpege, and Lanvin L'Homme and enjoyed them all. Not sure why they axed their entire masculine line but I'd love to see a new male fragrance from Lanvin at some point. EDIT: I'm starting to see the La Nuit comparisons the more I wear this, but I still maintain that it has a different character. Definitely feels more granular in texture, especially in the beginning, and gradually fades to that creamy dreamy lavender forward drydown. Beautiful.
It smells like La Nuit de l'Homme with a pinch of heliotrope, i.e., playdough-y. I prefer La Nuit but Avant Garde is similarly pleasing.
I was lucky to get this one few years ago just before it got discontinued , paid around 25 usd back in 2019. Smell is very nice and absolutely love it. Bottle design is stunning, a piece of art. It's a member of a now increasingly crowded space.. YSL LNH, Halloween X , Liquid Brun are all excellent. I own all the above and I'd say LNH has the edge. Avantgarde performance is miserable, 2-3 hours max. Since it now become very pricey .. if you already own any of the above..think twice before you jump.
Those of you who miss Avant Garde Lanvin, try French Avenue Liquid Brun Eau De Parfum.
The bottle is so beautiful, just like the perfume itself, but you first have to get past that hairspray thing. Anyway, this one is high on my list. It's a shame the spray/cap is so bad.
I finally found 30ml bottle of this beautiful discontinued fragrance. The bottle looks great, but the cap is weak and its falling all the time. Nevertheless, Syamala did a great job and I will use it for special ocassions. I love the combination of beeswax, lavander and creamyness. Longevity and projection are moderate but not every fragrance should be beast. I think if its going to be stronger, with this composition, it will be cloying and headache inducer.
Been wearing YSL La Nuit De L’Homme for years, but Lanvin Avant Garde hits different. Darker, heavier, that cardamom really pops. Wore it before prayers yesterday, picked up sweet traces of beeswax & amber on my thobe today. So good. Shame it’s discontinued.
Amazing scent. The beeswax and tobacco really make this unique. I'm sad this has discontinued. i have 50Ml left in a bottle if someone wants to buy it, im willing to pass on this bottle for someone to try
If anyone has a full/mostly/half full bottle of this at a reasonable price, I will gladly buy it off of/trade it for something. Hard for me to find anywhere...
Truly spectacular. Masterfully blended. Just the right amount of sweetness. Masculine, smooth.
Try Armani's Stronger with you - if you like this discontinued Lanvin fragrance - it's like an improved version. Avant Garde has this "hair spray" type smell that lingers for a couple hours before it settled into a nice creamy base.
first wearing: so yeah this one is kinda, sorta like YSL La Nuit and Burberry London both. It opens with a subdued cardamom warmth and an extra spoon of honey-in-tea like sweetness (that cuts straight to my nostrils) followed by some tobacco & lavender in the mid. The drydown has a wonderful dusty dark chocolate, likely because of the beeswax, but it's an skin-scent by then. I'll need to overspray this one to get some power. In these days of cheap copycats Avant Garde is going to come across as a copycat of La Nuit, but obviously it is not and is designer quality. But unfortunately that copycat tag is not gonna go from this one. Might as well bring Naxos into the discussion then. Sigh. I also wanted to try a frag by Shyamala Maisondieu and this creation is alright I guess. A little different and above-average, but underwhelming in the end. Fragrantica editor and columnist, Miguel Matos, references Zaharoff Singature Tabac so I'm going to have to see where that leads me to. A solid 3.14 / 5. I just wish it remained as strong as the opening act suggested. Oh yeah, the cap is a complete fail!
Omg I am shocked that this fragrance is now so highly rated I liked our many years ago and stocked up on quite a few bottles from amazon I'm in the UK and I'm sure I paid around £25.00 a bottle.... I can't believe how much they've gone up now... I have now used this fragrance for over 5 years I'm definitely going to try it Again Monday morning.....
People are comparing this to other fragrances.. nothing smells like this.. maybe the closest I’ve smelled is Eau des Baux L'Occitane en Provence
Nothing like La Nuit but it is a well blended juice!
Indiscriminate use of superlatives to describe our fragrances degrades the accuracy of our descriptions. But, by God, Lanvin Avant Garde's heavenly balance is absolutely stunning! @ Mr. Boston: mine also has a slight leak at the neck when sprayed.
I bought a 100ml bottle when I learned it was going to be discontinued. But after one year or two my bottle started licking oil from the face where the spray fits in the bottle and put it aside. 4 years later I refund my bottle with almost the whole cardboard box socked on oil. Apparently the licking has stopped.
This is nothing like La Nuit de l’homme, it’s a different fragrance. The beeswax and tobacco are so prominent and it’s very unique and high quality fragrance.
Bergamot and Honey drizzled over fresh Tobacco and Woods. Neither of my bottles leak @ Mr. Boston. It's crazy that a fragrance like this has so many different perceptions by people on here. This was love at first smell for me. I do wish the longevity was a tad bit better, but I still smell hours into the day, just close to the skin. No complaints otherwise.
Avant Garde by Lanvin is a woody, balsamic, warm and sweet fragrance. Its output is very pleasant, it is sweet but not cloying, very spicy, and a little floral, where lavender is very noticeable, although the most outstanding notes are tobacco, honey and benzoin. This last note along with a woody accord are notable especially in the dry down, where it bears some similarity to Body Kouros. Being a sweet fragrance, its ideal use would be in seasons such as autumn and winter, however I think that it could also be used on cool spring days. The use of spices and woody notes gives it a somewhat sensual appeal, which I have seen is very pleasing to both men and women. Its sillage is low, but it stays on the skin for a long time, in my case it has been more than 12 hours. Another attraction of this fragrance is its price, which is relatively low. I would recommend it to anyone who knows and enjoys fragrances like Body Kouros, Pure Havane or Michael Kors for Men. The only drawback is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find it.
As a long time user or La Nuit De'l Homme this perfume is a great switch up from time to time. Avant Garde feels like a darker heavier flanker of La Nuit De'l Homme, the prominent cardamom note is punchy with warm amber accords. While La Nuit De'l Homme is more of a close encounter intimate frag this one has better projection and longevity.
Got myself a 2011 bottle and I've been using it for a couple weeks now. Gave it around 5/6 wearings and I've got to be honest at first sniff it didn't blow me away. So, the day before yesterday i sprayed this on before my prayers and that beeswax note is just stunning. Fast forward to today and I wore that shirt again and I could still pick up faints sweet notes which could possibly be the benzoin and Amber working together. Very well blended scent which is perfect for all weathers! Must try from Shyamala Maisondeau.
Beautiful. One of the best designer dry downs ever. Terrible packaging quality control. I’ve never seen a bottle that didn’t leak.
While waiting for JPG Le Male Elixir to show up at sample sites I decided to layer Le Male Le Parfum with Lanvin Avant Garde to simulate what Le Male Elixir smells like in my mind. And wowowowow y'all gotta try this layering combo! If Le Male Elixir smells half this good then it's a definite buy.
It smells fine, you can definitely pick up the honey note as it dries down. There are many in the gourmand resinous family that, similar to this, give you the same general scent. I certainly wouldn’t overpay for this, in my collection it’s forgettable other than the said honey note that’s a slightly unique twist. I will say the bottle is gorgeous, sleek, futuristic, elegant.
When this first came out, this was one of the best fragrances you can get for cheap, the prices have risen of course, but this and midnight in Paris were so cheap it’s crazy to see the prices they are at now! Edit: I see people selling this for 500$-800$ now lol!
Cardamom and Tonka come first. Then comes the candied sugar or the honey. Leather in the background. Like la Nuit de l'Homme from YSL with honey and leather.
Dark, smooth, sweet, tobacco. Definitely has a similarity to CK Shock. I guess I can understand the comparison to LNDL, because it faintly shares some resemblances. Beautiful tobacco forward fragrance. Like pipe tobacco. If you can find it for a decent price, don't hesitate to pull the trigger. Shame it's been discontinued
Dark, smooth, and resinous masculine fragrance merged up and blended well with rich tobacco, beeswax, and warmth. It's mysterious and dark and its versatility is pretty high along with the superb performance.
