Ok, I've read a lot of reviews on Dent de Lait; I was hyped. It seems to be a weird perfume for a Serge Lutens. I was about to buy a full size, but someone told me it was weird, and probably not in the way I was expecting, so she made me a decant. I have to say it, I love the smell of medical and dental practices, even hospital smell... It's not that. The heliotrope is really not great; the almond is also... not good, really generic; it could have a great, soapy almond with a weird edge, but it's a half gourmand, half air freshener, with some white flower. I guess the name was evocative enough to make it work on people, or I was not traumatized enough by my dentist; but it's too good for that scent. Maybe Dent de lait is my second De Profundis : a Lutens that sounds incredible, with a good theme, but I can read anything, I don't get it. People are writting those reviews that make me want to love it, but I don't smell anything they described. It's sad, except for my wallet.
Blanche by byredo for girls who got amalgam fillings as kids and took out their own teeth
i hate the way the scent of this makes me feel. it feels unsafe. like imminent danger. it’s not that it smells repulsive, it’s that it smells like being at the dentist. and tasting your own blood. actually it feels more sinister than that???? almost malicious??? it’s very soapy clean and sterile but in the way that suggests there’s blood to be disinfected. like rubbing alcohol and iodine next to a gaping wound. it actually hurts to smell this because i feel a visceral pain response even though im not bleeding anywhere. it makes me feel like im ABOUT to be though. the scent itself is clean and overall “pleasant” in terms of notes, but the experience is bordering on dread. i instinctively brace myself whenever im around this perfume. like sweet, milky, soapy iodine covered blood. in a cold hospital room. i hate it.
This smells exactly like a nostalgic memory of snuggling up in bed when you're 4 years old after freshening up. The scents of various baby products you bathed in lingering on you, the taste of just brushing your teeth. It's all in here, and I remember it so clearly.
Blind bought. Hated it then absolutely loved it. At first smell it is shockingly different- very soapy and sharp. I decided to use it as a room spray and I would leave and come back in and be intoxicated by the smell. I tried it on skin a few times then absolutely fell in love with it- and am actually scared to use it because it is so hard to find. This is the sharpest aldehydic scent I own- even more than Blanche- and it has a spice to it that just commands attention. Very elegant, unique, fresh- VERY FRESH- aldehyde bomb of a fragrance that fades into a spectacular skin scent after about 5 hours. Absolutely worth the blind buy shock of this.
for some reason on my skin this smells like over-salted McDonald’s fries dipped in a vanilla milkshake
All the reviews on this are true. All of them. Dentist, pharmacy, metal, almond, soap. Cold, warm, sweet or not. Good, bad, indifferent. All true. EXCEPT, the ones mentioning blood. It is the scent of cherry flavoured syrup for fever. I personally despised that syrup, I still remember the day I was finally of the appropriate age to ditch it and start using pills instead.
Omg I'm so in love with this and I don't know where to find itttt.
My first fragrance, there will forever be a special place in my heart for this one. So interesting and addictive. A bit provocative and nostalgic for the right ones, I go wild
Blind bought full bottle after I saw the comments about psych-ward and dentist office. I've expected something unsetting and uncomfortable, but it's amazingly soft, clean and cold (not like "refreshing", but cold as metal). It smells like old Nivea can to me but lighter and with heliotrope. 100% great everyday perfume. Nothing milky or smoky, mostly metal and baby powder. Reminds me of Nikolai Musc intense (?), but softer.
One of my first thoughts wearing this was, “I hope my hospice nurse wears this perfume.” After a few more wears, I think I might actually make it a dying request. For me, this smells like a freshly bathed, powdered child running through an angelically clean house - windows open, clear light streaming in, flowers on the breeze, clouds in a painfully blue sky - but as if in a dream, or maybe something half-remembered. It lasts around 6-8hrs for me and is a pleasant scent to catch throughout the day. Not quite what I had envisioned off reviews as I was really hoping to get more of a bloody/metallic scent, but for me it is entirely entrancing regardless. Eerie in a comforting way. I can definitely see it as a “grandmotherly” scent, and a loved one said it reminded him of an older aunt.
Blind bought a full bottle and this one may be my first regret. It opens with some soapy, floral aldehides, but then the nauseating metalic moment comes on, and that one, at least to me is almost unbearable. I guess that's thr part people compare to blood. The dry down comes after a while, and is again tollerable, but nothing to be excited about. I do like some niche, but this one makes very little sense. Nothing lactonic or nutty about it. Screechy, artificial metallic florals. I am now stuck with the 100ml of this. I really hope my perception changes a little in time. Only silver lining is, I got it for a really good price, but now I guess I know why.
You're sitting next to an old lady in your local Catholic church. She's so old. Every time she stands up or sits down you're scared for her safety. She probably volunteers there. They haven't lit the incense yet but you can smell it from yesterday's mass. When she sings you can smell her mouth-smells. It's a little chilly in there. You wish you brought a sweater. I swear this smells like nonenal. Maybe just on me? The metallic notes have something distinctly salivic about them. Milk? Powdered milk, maybe. There is something distinctly old about this smell. Incense smelled from a basement of an 80s-build church in the American midwest. To be honest I could see this one growing on me but if I smelled this on someone younger than 70 I think I would assume they work at an old-person's home. EDIT: I was feeling super off and unsettled the other day and could not figure out what was going on until I realized I was wearing this scent. Felt like I was being haunted. I only bought a sample of this thank god but I'm gonna gift it to the next person that pisses me off
There is an intensely dry, strangely warm, slightly creamy quality to this. It reminds me of a specific white bar soap used in Indian clinics, or freshly laundered hospital linens, or perhaps a blast of detergent-scented hot air emitted onto the street by apartment building laundry rooms. Not as strange as I’d hoped. The metallic note is more like an entire bathroom sink with creamy white suds in the basin, nothing bloody about it. No teeth here either.
I have a FB for sale. If interested message me. Conus
Serge Lutens is my favorite perfume house aesthetically. The simplistic storytelling is always well executed to a good extend but to be honest, I was expecting something either like a raw milk, incensey and comforting or a milky ganymede because of all the metalic indicators. What I am getting here is white soap, oldschool nivea cream in a tin and maybe like a thiccc cream your mom would apply to your behind if you got chaffed when you were a kid. Nothing about the “milk tooth” and the childish or lactonic aspect of it. Its a well done perfume, just not the story I was expecting to smell
This is soap and incense. I kind of don't understand the point of Serge Lutens' fragrances and was quite disappointed when I got this, since I was expecting something pure, metallic, sparkling, but it's kind of like Lancome's "Miracle". I got it for very cheap, and I'm glad that I have it, all things considered. What is a good use for this fragrance imo, is when you need to be feared and respected. No for special occasions as in - for going out, but intimidating events, where you need to inspire fear/awe, not smell good.
I was eager to try this fragrance but the metallic note serious ruins it. It smells like a mouth full of blood and baby powder. Absolutely not a blind buy, its one of those scents that would make sense to some and offend others and I for one am offended. It tells a story and if you are into some wacky "out there" scents, maybe try a sample and give it a go. idk how a fragrance can smell like a cold abandoned psych-ward/dentists office but it does, minus the mildew LOL. I hate to say hate but I HATE it.
this is what i assume a dream or an angel smells like. which i mean in the best way possible
LOOOOOVE Wow, this is the metallic, airy, skin scent you would not expect Lutens creates. A masterpiece of it's own kind, it belongs to another galaxy compared to the warm, woody, spicy, heavy signature fragrances of the Brand. This is a 180-degree move. Bold and angelic and amazing. This is to show and mock anyone who doubts how much more magic Maison Lutens offers. I am mesmerized. Love, just love. Pure air alchemy. Christopher Sheldrake did it again. 10/10 Pure magic divinity on my skin.
if anyone would be willing to help me procure a 2ml decant, i am looking to sample. 🫶 if you live in canada that’s a bonus!
this is like much cleaner version of PDM Pegasus. It's super clean at the opening, smells almost like some sort of wet wipes, then it gets more lactonic and creamier. And that metallic feeling is always within you throughout the opening and the drydown. The lactonic + Metallic feeling is quite unusual to me. It's cool and all when you first smell it but for some reason as i continue to smell it, i start to want puking or something, it gets unbearable. Really unusual, but it gave me a nausea. 5.5/10
This smells like dove soap and sleepovers at grandmas. The initial spray of this is screechy, musky, grandma-like aldehydes, and I do get a floral facet here and there. After the initial headiness wears off, it feels more like a classic soapy, fresh aldehyde — but there is something very sinister and unnerving (fecal) underneath. Closer to the dry down, I do get some powdery sweetness and bitter musks, and the aldehydes stick around for the duration of the wear. I probably would not wear this in my everyday life, but as a fan of Serge Lutens I can appreciate this for what it is. FWIW, I don’t get anything lactonic in this fragrance like a lot of other reviews, and as a lover of Le Labo Aldehydes 44, I don't see any similarities here.
If you’ve followed Serge Lutens for quite some time, you’ll be aware - or should be - that part of his and his brand’s aesthetic is that when it comes to conventions and doing what’s expected of him by loyal fans, general consumers, and the cogs in commercial wheel, Serge takes the position of IDGAF, as the kids would say. How else can you explain why he would give us a perfume that is a floral milky kid’s shampoo? Yep, that’s what he did with Dent de Lait. Although, as far as shampoos or bubble bath or the like go, I wish I had something in my shower shelf that smelled like this. It’s soapy, clean, and just downright fun in the most innocent and childlike way. A bracing aldehydic opening is like the physical rush felt when the first gallons of water erupt from the faucet - cold and shocking - instantly waking you up. The combo with adoxal gives a floral and laundered linen quality to it, while almonds and coconut give it the distinctly milky aspects of creamy unctuousness and highlighting the sweet and soapy musks. There is a very clean incense tendril running through it somewhere but it’s very hard to pin down, adding a somewhat resinous and mineralic shade. Expertly composed and not the least bit scratchy, sterile, or pushy in the way many soapy perfumes are. It’s a lovely and luxurious soap. Here’s the thing: I like Dent de Lait, I really do; every whiff I take puts a carefree smile of giggly joy on my face, but after a few hours - and indeed a few straight days - of wearing it, at some point I fall over the line and say “ok, that’s quite enough, I don’t want to smell of milky and floral bubblebath anymore.” This is a me problem, not the perfume’s problem. But, I still think it’s a valid point and postulation: how often and for how long do you really want to smell of a kid’s bubblebath and is that what you want people to smell on you? Someone out there is probably saying “heck yes, sign me up” and that’s great. Bravo. That person isn’t me. I had fun in the bathtub for a while, but at some point I inevitably want to get out of it. If only Serge Lutens made an actual soap out of this. I’d be sold in a second.
On first spray, I got a basic onanistic soap scent.. glad I sampled... but then after spending some time with it, the creamy, powdery, milky, sweet almonds come out. Gorgeous dry florals, clean, lactonic, cold and skin like... an almost sweat like smell? But not dirty?? It's beautiful... definitely coldness but not getting the metallicness. Overall a beautiful complex milky clean fragrance.
The first time I tested this, it immediately reminded me of the dentist's office so I put it down for months. In recent weeks, I've put it on each and every time I feel sad and alone...and it made me feel better. The world I belonged to was Dent de Lait's ivory tower, framed by purple flowers and inhabited by a mage that you'll catch glimpses of once in a blue moon. She sits by her tall window, conjuring near milky plumes of galactic incense. One day the world will embrace her eerie wit in the same way her magic softly swaddles her at night. For now, moonlight swallows her figure and casts a shadow on the rough stone wall behind her. Cold, soapy incense with a touch of something warm, like hope.
This just smells like soap. I do get a “coldness” from it but there is nothing spooky, vampy, or groundbreaking about this. Very similar to ghost in the shell by ELDO. I except it smells clean in a slightly vintage way, whereas ghost in the shell just smells like Dove soap. I would go for this one if you want to smell like soap but a little different, and I would go for Ghost in the shell for a more safe, fresh soap.
I get the metal and milk notes on my skin very prominently. This scent is like a cold version of Etat Libre d'Orange Ghost in the Shell. I can't help but compare the two. Beautiful, I love it. The incense is a bit shy in this one but comes through later on nonetheless. And I get the almond (but only a whisper). The florals are very faint on my skin (which is a blessing for me personally). A great scent for a soft cybergoth.
i smell it stronger after sniffing it? it's like it coats the inside of my nose and stays there. almost unwearable imo :')
This perfume borders on fetichistic! It feigns innocence and cold sweetness, but is is severe and slightly dom. Reminds me of Walerian Boroczyck films, particularly one where a rosy cheeked damsel runs in the forest, being chased by a sexy wolf. Dent de lait is aldehydic, cruel, angelic.
