In my opinion, this is so similar to the original - like, 85%+ - that there is no need to own both unless you're absolutely in love with the original and have the money to blow. There is a boozy warmth that is absent in the original, but it's fairly subtle. Warmer and somehow more rounded than the original. However, I was disappointed to find it is *no less floral* than the original. No darker, either. Even so, definitely quite like it - probably a little more than the original. Neither are really unisex by conventional standards, imo. They are dark and heady, but in a superfeminine way. Of course anyone can wear whatever but as someone who generally dislikes floral fragrances I can say I do have a special place in my heart for this perfume as well as the original. It's just not something I would just casually wear every day.
i absolutely love this fragrance, my personal favorite. however, there are a lot of qualities that would make guys not like it. it's unisex but leans feminine to me. also, it's super heavy and sweet, almost to the point where it's cloying. personally, i can't imagine wearing it outside of winter. that being said, when i do wear it, it smells extremely decadent and rich, and gives off a confident vibe. super intoxicating scent, but not for everyone!
I forgot how unbelievably heady and dense this perfume was. apparently I have bought it in 2020. this is that inescapable thick wall of perfume, reminescent to the Original, but even more shockingly present and disturbing. not so much for me, but I was taken aback a little this morning. it is the Truffle, Plum, the Orchid (which I recognise from GRAFF's Lesedi di Rhona IV), close to Rose and Ylang. the Ylang in here is smothered by the first two notes, but imposingly so. Rum and Patchouli ain't bad either. with all the storm over Tom Ford here he obviously still had all the threads to hand. calling a new 'perfume' (fragrance, Jus, Juice, a Scent) a 'Perfume' as in targeting the concentration and perseverence seems justified here. after this Perfume Up came the 'Perfumes'. I still remember the perfumes from Chanel No5, Shalimar, Mitsouko, Jicky, L'Heure Bleue in 1974. these were 0.125oz7.5mL for over $150. but actually 'perfume' may be more concentrated and with less alcohol, this brings suppleness and softness. I had bad luck with perfume. because of the slitzy character of the perfume flacon of RUBJ, from Vero.Kern, twice the flacon (and another) slid out of my (male) fingers. and half of $ 240 flooded away.... then this flacon is more practical. Tom Ford stays the Super Artistic Editor, even if he sold his own Brand (fashion & parfumerie). this perfume is to die for, if it doesn't choke you already.
Sweet syrupy slightly licorice smelling. Smells like an old ladies perfume that's way too strong.
I am decluttering and selling this 100ml bottle, sprayed once for testing. I'm based in UK so UK only Drop me a private message to grab it :) Here's the picture of the bottle: https://ibb.co/XxnrjsfG
These type of fragrances are rare, I had a bottle and never thought I would be able to wear it, Today I love it. It’s so different, to this day I know nothing that gives the same vibe. 3 sprays max, more can be overwhelming. It’s not perceived as weird as I thought, people like it. Not even gonna try to describe the scent, but it’s very “perfumy” not realistic or gourmand.
Update to an earlier review and just my own thoughts. I have only ever worn this in autumn/Winter (that’s what I was told to do) Today, is a Spring day. Not hot, but warm ish and I was craving the uniqueness of this fragrance, so I ripped up the rule book, and , Wow! I was stunned at how good this is in warmer temperatures and warmer skin. It blew me away. I was enveloped in it and the feeling I got was so comforting, it made my mind go quiet. Don’t let people tell you when, where, or how to wear perfume. I don’t think I’ll ever do as I’m told again.
I don't like this one as much as the original (black bottle)... the opening here is very earthy... smells really like dirt and mushrooms. I love love the black bottle... that said I will test it again when it's not so warm outside ^^

Staying with the house of Tom Ford, this time the focus shifts to Black Orchid Parfum, a fragrance that carries a reputation as bold, sensual, and unmistakably distinctive. The Black Orchid line has always struck me as leaning more feminine, but there has long been a conversation around its unisex appeal, with the Parfum version often pointed to as the most wearable for men. That alone makes this an interesting one to approach, as it sits right at the intersection of perception and experience, raising the question of how it actually translates once worn. On paper, the blend of truffle, plum, rum, florals, and patchouli reads like something dark, decadent, and slightly mysterious, balancing earthy richness with a sweet, almost intoxicating depth. It suggests a composition that is less about freshness or brightness and more about presence, texture, and mood. Let’s step into the shadows and see how this darker profile reveals itself once it meets the skin. Opening: The opening is sweet, fruity, and earthy. The primary notes I get are plum, truffle, rum, and black orchid, with the plum and truffle leading. The plum comes through first with a rich, juicy sweetness, carrying a slight tart edge that keeps it from feeling overly syrupy and gives the opening a lush, almost jam-like quality. Alongside it, the truffle introduces a dark, earthy depth that feels slightly damp and textured, not quite like soil, but with a distinct dirtiness and a subtle savory undertone that adds an unusual, almost mysterious character reminiscent of the truffle used in Carolina Herrera's Bad Boy Cobalt Elixir, but of noticeably higher quality. The rum sits just beneath these notes, bringing a warm, boozy sweetness that enhances the richness of the opening and adds an indulgent, intoxicating layer without overpowering the composition. In the background, the black orchid begins to emerge, contributing a deep, velvety floral presence with a shadowy richness that ties everything together and reinforces the fragrance’s signature identity. The result is an opening that blends traditionally masculine and feminine elements in equal parts, placing it squarely on the border of unisex while maintaining a bold and distinctive character. Dry Down: The dry down is sweet, floral, and earthy. The primary notes I get are truffle, patchouli, ylang-ylang, and black orchid, with the truffle and patchouli leading. The truffle remains a focal point, carrying over that same dark, earthy character from the opening, but now taking on a slightly drier, more dusty quality that shifts it closer to the style of truffle found in Bad Boy Cobalt Elixir. Alongside it, the patchouli rises to prominence, introducing a sweet, woody depth that reinforces the richness of the composition while adding structure and a more grounded feel. Beneath that, the ylang-ylang works quietly in the background, contributing a creamy, almost buttery floral sweetness that smooths out the sharper edges and enhances the overall warmth. Finally, the black orchid continues to provide that signature dark, velvety floral presence, tying the composition together and maintaining its shadowy, luxurious tone. The result is a dry down that stays firmly unisex, but begins to lean slightly more feminine as the floral elements become more pronounced and integrated into the overall profile. Performance: Projection opens strong within the first hour, reaching out to about six feet and making a clear, noticeable presence. Sillage follows with a heavy scent trail that carries the fragrance’s rich, earthy sweetness through the air. After about three to four hours, projection softens to around three to four feet, while the scent trail becomes lighter but remains noticeable. As the fragrance moves into the later stages around the eight hour mark, projection pulls in to within arm’s length, and the scent trail becomes faint. Shortly after, it transitions into a skin scent, maintaining a softer presence up close. Overall, this delivers respectable performance with a strong opening and a steady, gradual decline. When to Wear: Black Orchid Parfum is best suited for the fall and winter months, where its depth and richness can fully come through in cooler air. It leans strongly toward evening wear, fitting naturally into more elevated settings where a bold, expressive fragrance feels appropriate. This makes it a strong option for special occasions like date nights, as well as formal events where its dark, luxurious character can complement a more dressed-up presentation. In more casual situations, it tends to feel a bit too heavy and intentional, lacking the ease you would typically want for everyday wear. The same applies to the office, where its density and presence would likely come across as overwhelming rather than refined. Blind Buy: Black Orchid Parfum is not a safe blind buy. The truffle note alone makes this a more challenging fragrance, bringing an unusual, earthy, and slightly savory quality that can be polarizing depending on personal taste. Also, while the overall composition sits in unisex territory, the floral presence, especially in the dry down, becomes more noticeable and may not appeal to those looking for something more traditionally masculine. It is a fragrance that leans into character and individuality rather than broad appeal, making it important to experience on skin first. Sampling is strongly recommended before considering a full bottle. Final Verdict: Black Orchid Parfum was an enjoyable enough wear, even if it does not fully align with my personal preferences. It is easy to see why it has the following that it does, as it offers a bold and distinctive profile that stands apart from more conventional fragrances. The main question for me going into this was whether it truly lives up to its reputation as a unisex scent. After wearing it on skin, I would agree that it sits firmly in that space overall, but it does lean slightly more feminine than I would prefer. As it develops, the florals in the dry down become more prominent, and that shift does not quite resonate with my taste. While I can appreciate the composition and the way it is put together, it ultimately does not feel like something I would reach for. It was an interesting experience and one I am glad to have explored, but in the end, it is not a fragrance I would add to my collection. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 6/10 Versatility: Average Compliment Factor: Average Gender: Unisex Value: Fair
Lasts more than 8 hours on my skin. I get chocolate and patchouly somewhat sweet and dark. I would wear this on a winter/ fall night
Applies strongly indolic violet floral that's deep and doesn't scream feminine. There's a dewy green note that adds base in a uniquely appealing way. The floral chords I don't recognize but are natural enough to read unisex. It leans more dark and mysterious. Definitely not sunny. Soft wet wood takes time to add base along with mildly uplifting shampoo. The rain washed freshness is impeccable while skin radiates more spicy warmth. I appreciate how strong it is, but the refined nuance expected from Tom Ford is brusque here. It has the boldness, but I think the dominant chord is more basic. I'm definitely drawn to this scent but realizing this iteration is not it. Perhaps it excels at projecting since going close isn't great. Seems like clothes project better. Haven't written it off because other versions are probably better.
This is probably my second favorite in the main 4 line next to the OG. A lot more understated so it can be worn in more situations. Very beautiful and mysterious combination with the rum, truffle, patchouli and plum. The florals take a huge back seat, if at all present, so it's also the most unisex/masculine. I do miss the chocolate though which is why I love the OG best. Great fragrance though!
A very interesting and seductive fragrance. The truffle note gives it a very special charm and makes it mysterious and irresistible at the same time. There isn’t a single accord here that feels out of place. A great concept and absolutely signature-scent worthy. Black Orchid Parfum is the perfect evening fragrance for a restaurant in New York. For this one, you really have to be dressed exceptionally well — ideally in an elegant suit, maybe a pinstripe suit with a jacket — in autumn. It has something elite to it, almost bourgeois. You smell wealthy and sophisticated. I really like it. Price-wise, it’s on Tom Ford level — not cheap. The bottle and cap, however, feel very cheap: plastic. The scent itself is even better because of that. The sillage is excellent for Tom Ford, and the longevity is also very good (5–6 hours). It’s great when a designer/fashion house dares to take risks and experiments with notes like truffle and black orchid. Keep it up. Signature-scent potential.
My current daily driver and favorite iteration of the BO line. The best way to describe this is a massive simplification of the EDP. As if the EDP was blended so seamlessly that you couldn't really tell the individual notes apart. Yes there is some rum in here but I would not call it boozy by any means. Admittedly less interesting in the heart vs the EDP but very smooth overall and has the best dry down of any of the BO lineup; it's smooth and rich without being overly sweet. It's the best version of that signature chocolatey and plummy experience that has you smelling your wrist all day. I do not get any distinct floral notes like I do with the EDP either, there is a "floral-ness" in there somewhere but it's just so well blended in that you can't really pick it out. I also find it a little more powdery too in the dry down. Performance for me is worse than the EDP - the scent itself is less brash, more intimate, and only lasts between 6-8 hours. I can easily apply my usual 5 spray pattern which I usually don't do with the EDP. I still love the EDP though - it's much more intricate with more distinctive notes. Truly if you want the purest, quintessential BO experience the EDP is still king. This Parfum version I feel probably appeals to more people as it's just less complicated and ultimately smoother all around. I'd say it's a very worthwhile flanker but I'm also one of the weirdos that can easily smell the difference between all of the BO iterations. For most people it'll probably just come across as a smoother, creamier, and more agreeable version of BO.
Earthy chocolate with some rum and a lot of orchid. Very polarizing, very high end smell, sophisticated and a little mature. It's a great great fragrance. No wonder everybody on Earth knows it.
I find that some bottles of this are absolutely beautiful. There is a perfect dosage of each ingredient, leading to a sophisticated, almost powdery rum scent. Other times, you may find a bottle from a notoriously ‘bad’ batch, where the fungus note is portrayed a bit too heavily, making the scent annoyingly reminiscent somewhat of orchids with a touch of faeces.
I don't know how but somehow that gave me ballet vibes especially 'swan lake'.Unisex forsure but that will be better on achieved woman.
@Viki5436, i am from Europe (France) and no this fragrance is not discontinued, is still being sold and appears on the official Tom Ford’s website. Every store is selling it, of any released sizes.
First, it must be said that the truffle accord found in Tom Ford Black Orchid and all of its flankers is nothing but a marketing fantasy. Real fungal truffles have a complex scent, especially the black ones, but that complexity barely overlaps with what is found in this fragrance line. If I had to describe the Black Orchid truffle accord I might suggest an extreme and distorted fruitchouli further dosed with petrichor and resins, ...but I could be wrong. If we now examine the gold-bottled Black Orchid Parfum, the idea does indeed seem to be a flanker fragrance that more fully focuses on this previously discussed 'truffle' accord, while reducing the florals, spices, and chocolate elements. Personally, I don't find such a simplification particularly necessary. There is already plenty of unforgettable non-truffles in the original formula, and its other flankers. Also, despite this version being named as a 'parfum', it doesn't seem any more stronger than the other black orchids. One possible use for this particular fragrance would be if a perfume wearer with sophisticated layering skills might ever want to transfer the distinctive (non-)truffle accord to a completely different fragrance profile. If so, this particular version does carry that note in relative isolation.
I bought this and tried it the very next day. Was excited so I sprayed it all over and got to the office. After that I only remember trying to deflect the scent coming from my torso. It was so intense, it was nauseating. Lesson learnt, I only sprayed this sparingly from then on. I was worried about this perfume at the peak of its maceration. lool About the perfume, it's not very simple or too complex. You know whether you like it or not from the first whiff. It's boozy, a bit oudy. It's heavy on the nose, leaning towards a Middle Eastern DNA. It will remind you of Dubai even if you've never been there. Projection is amazing, and surely leaves a long trail. Alternatively, I would totally imagine this perfume being sold by a super niche brand in a bottle that's made of 100% stone from the volcanic areas of Tonga. Overall, this is an amazing creation. The bottle, the concoction; it's legendary. It commands attention on the perfume rack. Especially when kept amongst perfume bottles that look like perfume bottles. If I absolutely have to nitpick, I'd talk about the atomiser. It spits out the perfume with a lot of disdain and I don't like to see it. But overall, absolutely worth it. If you try it and don't like it now, it's not because the perfume isn't good, it's because you're not ready for it champ. Come back in a few years. So obviously, not a safe blind buy.
It seems like this one is unfortunately discontinued, or at least in EU. Unfortunately. Most sexiest perfume for men...
I just smelled this in store today and I am 98% sure this is the one that had an EXTREMELY distinct aura of Ghiradelli Peppermint Bark or just peppermint bark in general... I didn't get a single other note listed lmao 8.5/10 was fire
I made an account just for this because it's one of the best things I've ever smelled. This was the first "real" fragrance I bought and since then I've tried quite a few and hardly anything comes close.
Found it nauseating, the truffle note is too much for me.
This is a truly decadent, opulent fragrance. It has great sillage and lasts forever. This is a favorite of mine to wear to nighttime formal events.
I wrote a very unflattering and horrible review for Tom Ford "Black Orchid" back in 2015. I was relatively new to niche and designer fragrances, so I was exploring many different scents to find my niche, my style. I realize my perfume tastes and preferences have evolved over the years. I recently became re-intrigued with white floral notes, so I decided to retry Tom Ford "Black Orchid," "Black Orchid Voile de Fleur," and "Black Orchid Parfum." I decided to test generous decant samples and full-bottle purchases of flankers because my main recollection of the original is its STRENGTH and INTENSITY. The multiple reviews about the skankiness and weirdness of the OG also frightened me and pushed me towards flankers. While I like Black Orchid Parfum, it is not the total love I feel when I re-experience Black Orchid EDP. Black Orchid Parfum is a MUCH less intense version of the OG with boatloads of boozy honey, or rum...something a bit liquer-ish in the opening. The perfume's development is a muted, weaker version of Black Orchid cloaked in a boozy, sweet honey accord. Some florals are present, I imagine. But Parfum is sweet, syrupy, boozy, honey-hued. I struggle to detect patchouli in the perfume's dry-down (which is really saying something, right)... To my older and more trained nose, Black Orchid Original EDP is a fabulous concoction, it really is.
Shared it with my dad , he worshipped it heavily me on the other side nope it smells like Arab incense with a bad chocolate idk it’s complexly disturbing not a bad smell but hard to interpret and it’s really powerful
Strong and unique smell. If your skin type is dry, it will probably stay on your skin for at least 3–4 hours, while your clothes will keep the scent for 5–6 hours or more. Don’t expect a miracle, though. The opening can be harsh at times and needs a little patience. It may make you feel dizzy, especially on an empty stomach or early in the morning. The sillage is enormous for the first 2 hours, so it’s not ideal for office mornings or public transport. It’s a well-rounded perfume for fall and winter. Personally, I wouldn’t prefer it for summer or late spring. Simply, it’s the best costume you can ever wear for night outs — a complete experience.
This one is a way better version than edp, especially in the opening. When i first tried BO, didn’t appeal much to me because it was mainly an earthly sour dry woody fragrance - where i couldn’t envision directly all of the beauty. I gave up on it BUT during the dry down started to get different whiffs of it where i became almost addicted the- truffle. So instead of going for edp, i thought why not directly blind buy the parfum since both go in the same direction. Well, everything that made me like the OG, i found it in the parfum from the opening to its end. The emphasis on the truffle note is significantly more proement, it’s less earthy but softer, well rounded, less sharp in the sourness. The truffle note is really what makes this fragrance exceptionnal and unique - while the OG takes some time to get there, with the « parfum » you directly get to the beauty of what BO firstly intended to be. The plus the EDP has, is that during the dry down, chocolaty note appears (sweetness) which way more foreward than in the parfum which eventually counterbalance the initial flaws of the opening (which i believe what scares most of people who say to dislike this fragrance). No more sourness, no more dry earthy but instead it becomes a luxurious deep and richer than le Parfum, which remains truffle forward and boozy, lacking this profoundness. The EDP is unisexe in the opening before becoming feminine. The parfum is more feminine, sweeter from the begining. Hence, while liking strong truffle, i am glad having the parfum. But i couldn’t be without the edp, because then i was lacking of the profound aspect of it. So now i layer both by applying them together. Both perform great even though the parfum, seems to do better. EDP OG : 8.5/10 (i really have to wait for the dry down to benefit from it) Le parfum : 9.5/10 (could be perfect on its own but knowing edp, i was missing a slight part of it)
