Very elegant, smells like being a female gothic novel protagonist. Sweet and mysterious. There are florals, spice, incense, vintage vibes. Would wear it in autumn for spooky vibes.
Smells like barbecue and pollen
I tried this back to back with bee and they both have a pretty similar take on honey, very resinous and animalic, but this one is less waxy and layered with powdery vintage florals. It also somehow reminds me of a very floral tea that had way too much honey added to it. Its not particularly spicy or smoky to my nose, it just kind of lingered without doing a lot. It's nice but didn't stick out to me too much.
legit smells exactly like a hippy store but not tree of life like an independently owned small town TRUE hippy store. every incense ever and then jute.
thick, dark, nocturnal. It smells like nuzzling down into a sleeping bag in a tent, beside someone who’s been sitting at the campfire all night. Skin is spicy-sweet from campfire and rum and bug spray and sunsweat. And it’s your smell too, cuz it’s in your hair and on your cheeks. There are animals out in the bushes, and wild flowers blooming, humid and feral. But your friends are still awake out there. There’s a glow from the fire and the soft sound of voices. A moth throws its silhouette on the canvas. You get up to unzip the tent so it can fly out into the night air.
Open is strong, spicy, almost medicinal. I get honey immediately. Slowly the spices mellow and the floral notes show up. A nice smoky, honey, and floral fragrance. A dusty corner of an old book store. An old church with incense burning in the background. On me though, the honey starts to overwhelm the other notes and it turns a little too animalic.
i wanted to love this one I really did and I have no idea what chemistry happened to make this, but I get zero floral, or honey or sweetness. All I get is an overwhelming, disgusting squished bug smell (I think it's the green/herbaceous mixing badly with the musk) and sort of like something that's been dried out and moldering in a closet...yikes. Both this and snowy owl made the whole package of samples REEK and even the box I put them in smelled like it and I can still smell it even though both of them were dumped down the sink.....they last forever and are very strong.
Maybe it's the name, but it reminds me of moth balls. Sort of plastic and synthetic. I think it's the combo of smoke, honey, and resins. Somewhat medicinal. It's not for me. It's definitely unique. Not a safe blind buy.
Took a second for her to grow on me but I like her a lot. It gives me ghost vibes but less like a spirit and more like a poltergeist. It's STRONG but gothic and very unique. She's delectable but not a safe blind buy. Get. A. Sample.
Well, for starters, Moth is a weirdo. You love Moth or you hate Moth, there is no inbetween...I have tested this theory today with my coworkers, there are definitely haters. I, myself, am a fan of Moth! No, I cannot pick up on specific notes, my nose is not as refined as the people below. I would say it reminds me of Halloween. I smell licorice and a little bit of root beer, I am not typically a fan of spicy scents, but I do enjoy this one!
Moth… I think this is one of Zoologist’s most successful creations from a figurative standpoint. It captures the atmosphere and aura of the animal that graces the bottle, the moth, with remarkable accuracy. This is definitely not a fragrance for the faint of nose. In my experience, the opening was so intense that it almost prevented me from smelling the fragrance properly on my skin. It completely overwhelmed my sense of smell for the first few minutes. Then it begins to reveal itself, and from an artistic perspective it becomes truly fascinating. It perfectly evokes the feeling, often mentioned by others as well, of an old haunted house, dusty, abandoned, its colors faded by time. It also has a beautiful evolution. After an opening dominated by dense, pungent spices, it gradually sinks into a floral heart where heliotrope stands out. Throughout the entire experience, there is a persistent medicinal honey accord, a balsamic kind of honey, reminiscent of eucalyptus or thyme honey. Although I generally don’t like making comparisons, if I had to give a reference point, I would say it reminds me of a blend of the opening of Narcotico, some aspects of Odor 93, and a touch of Varanasi by Fusciuni. I mention this only to give an idea of the kind of olfactory experience it offers, one that certainly won’t suit everyone’s taste. Will I wear it? Honestly, not much during this season. As I write this, it is summer, and it doesn’t feel like the easiest time of year to wear it with confidence. But knowing myself, I also know that I will need to dedicate the right amount of time to truly synchronize with the beating of its moth-like wings, and I genuinely can’t wait to do exactly that.
smells overwhelmingly of honey on my skin, and medicinal almost. like honey-flavoured medicine. it also smells like one of my 50-something year old aunt's houses, dusty but not dirty. its very nostalgic and i can smell the smokiness in there but its definitely not a good smell to wear in the heat. maybe in the fall or winter ill like it more. its also very strong so i would not overspray this
The honey dominates an otherwise interesting concoction. Between the clove and the lemon it opens almost minty and bright w a serious, brooding undertone. Then the honey brings its nauseating weight and drags everything down. So many tantilizing notes fly by w each preserving its own integrity. These v clear: you recognize them individually. Interesting potential but just too heavy handed w the honey.
Bold, warm and peppery. One spritz on the neck, one spritz on the wrist, pat wrists together to transfer. Throughout the day would get whiffs of it as I moved my arms. About 7 or more hours later I could still smell it on my skin. Delightful!
Testing a small decant. On the first spray I immediately get bubblegum and old paper. About 5-10 minutes in I'm getting an artistic, pretty rendition of a slightly damp basement with inherited old furiture. There's something that reminds me of Murphys oil or pledge and dust, but... like a painting of it? Something very warm and inviting underneath. I am very intrigued and need to give it a full day test in the fall, but this is a world I'd like to inhabit more.
I absolutely LOVE MOTH . In my top 3 of the brand, she's the feminine counterpart to the elegant woody Rhynocerous for me. This perfume is amazing and feminine and mysterious in a bright way. Citrusy and bright more than I expected and i love that contrast to the dusty, "darker" part. It does smell like a grandparent's home, there is a touchable feeling of emptyness and nostalgy in opening old wood cupboards with remains of moth balls, walking around rooms with framed photos, wood ornaments, lace table center pieces, dust and "void". Vintage home typical scent, but leaning feminine. Amazingly done, i would have wanted to add her immediately in full bottle but she's sold out. Joined a waiting list. Beautful creation 10/10 .
first spray im getting a lot of inky-iris. very powdery and floral. after a bit i get some of the cinnamon and clove notes, but its still very inky-iris. the rose ends up diluting the powdery iris dominance and brings out the spicy saffron notes. black pepper note becomes more prevalent too. after some time all i can really smell is smokey sweet powdery patchouli. can’t tell if the sweetness is jasmine or honey. probably both? then definitely a powdery/musky honey patchouli finish. slight smokiness. not medicinal patchouli smell which is good, definitely more warm sweet spicy + woody. the patchouli is a bit much (cloying) after a few hours. im not getting as much grandma, more-so witchy/gothic. or even eccentric aunt, but less so than Bat. i feel like this would be great to wear to an antique store or an estate sale
Delicious and mysterious, it's giving eating matcha mochi with a cup of black tea!!
I waited so long to try this & hyped it up all for it to smell like a photorealistic diaper. Not a dirty diaper, its clean but its been stuffed with mothballs and left to marinate so the scent can waft throughout a nursing home. I worked in a nursing home, it smelled just like this. 😐
i like this fragrance decently but i want to like it so much more than i do! it's almost candylike to me which i find really interesting but just doesn't completely seem to agree with my nose and body lolol. it's pretty green, which i enjoy as well! in general it smells like a house product that i cant really seem to place my finger on? i agree with the sentiment that it smells like a hippie grandma, and that's very endearing, as well as up my ally, but maybe not for me specifically? i'd rather leave it to the grandma herself, but i really appreciate how beautiful this fragrance in itself is.
After the spicy opening settles down, it transforms over the next few hours into this GORGEOUS honeyed incense scent on the skin that I just can’t stop smelling I genuinely think every alternative person person should give Moth a chance.
My absolute favourite, Moth ! it was sold out, and i couldn't get my hands on it, it's def staying on my "to buy" list asap. I'm in loooooove ! This is what Perfumery should feel like. Incredibly deep, amazing fragrance, great storytelling in the perfume notes, truly evolving and enchanting. Deep dark and handsome. There's a sense of void, and emptiness that i absolutely adore. There's a hint of strangeness, denseness and smokyness that makes me fly. This is what i expect Merlin to smell like, and i want to fall in it nose first. 20/10
smells like wet ass mothballs and dust
Creosote, tyre factory, wet campfire, abandoned antique shop. LOVE IT!!!
On the wings of the dead. On my culture moths are told to carry back the dead souls, in a similiar way that anglosaxons speaks about the crows, for obvious influences from E.A. Poe and '90s pop cinema, and this perfume brings me back immediatly to that story. It is dark, haunting and at the same time irresistible. It opens with an overdose of warm spices, almost intoxicating, then a honey accord emerges from the base (a thick one, sticky, non gourmand, almost resinous) because after all, beside the narration and the suggestions this is a honey fragrance, mixed with powdery flowers that remind of the dust of moth's wings while a smoke, burned, note remains present till in the woody (a little bit of synthetic? oud here) earthy (cypriol, patchouli, vetiver) resinous and slightly animalic drydown. Wow, what a fragrance. It is so evocative, dark, intense and representative of the story of this moth looking for love but going nearer and nearer to the flame untill she burns and dies. I can't stop smelling this, I'm in love with every part of the evolution, it is so godly formulated to tell the story and yet remaining a stunning perfume in every phase. This is for me my first 10 out of 10 review ever, and it is fully deserved. Ok, I'll try to tone down my enthusiasm and give some practicalities: this a strong perfume, it takes the scene and can be even suffocating (and in this case they are all good qualities for me since I love it this much), so be carefull in close quarters situations (ie restaurant ecc...), it is totally narrative so totally unisex, maybe avoid 30+ temperature but beside this it is so good you can wear it four seasons; has a decent longevity (6+) in the heat and a good one in the cold times (8-10). Price is the usual zoologist and this time it is fully deserved. Not blind buy safe I must admit.
This scent is absolutely STUNNING. It reminds me of something my mother would wear when I was a child, but I can't put my finger on it. But it's a beautiful nostalgic smell for me. It smells dark but comforting, floral and heady but not overwhelming, and slightly spicy but woody and sweet too. Highly enjoy this, I might even purchase a full bottle for autumn.
Absolute magic, the start to the dry down, basically smoked honey at first and it comes strong and a few minutes later it calms but with a hint of iris and musk, I'm sure the smoky effect comes from the oud but you wouldn't know it's oud if you aren't experts with notes , will I buy the whole bottle? Eh it depends really because I only see myself wearing it for winter and rarely for spring, but god its lovely im definitely buying the full bottle because for me Zoologist deserves it
I never, ever thought this was going to be the few love of my life scents. I don't know if I could describe it right! Deep, dusty, sweet, it sounds weird but the artist put this into perfection! Masterpiece!
This was a sad one for me. I've been wanting to smell it for so long and unfortunately all I can smell is jasmine. I admittedly have a horrible time with jasmine and it's always cloying to me. I will say, when first applied it transports you to an estate sale of someone you never knew. old carpet and textiles. Dusty bookshelves and a closet filled with clothes from the 70's that haven't been touched. It dries into a lot more of that dust but also there's something oddly.... fecal? This smells like what it's absolutely trying to portray until the last moment where its finished off just jasmine. I wish in the dry down I was able to pick up anything else but thats truly all I get. Im sure for anyone that loves jasmine this is hit! Just not for me.
