Smells like a ginger tea, even though there s no ginger listed in the notes.(probably from the spiciness). Very uplifting and unique for a designer, could be a safe blind buy if you like spicy tea scents. Mostly fit for summer and spring but it could work just as well on a sunny fall day. Performance is not the best, 4-5 hours, expected from a citrus fragrance. Overall a solid scent 8/10
This is just so insanely nice. Fresh tea (I dont even like tea), summer, lemon and gin, then a woody undercurrent. It's so addictively compelling.
I mistakenly bought the eau de parfum after testing the EDT, and they are completely different. Everything that makes this fragrance so great—its lightness, discretion, subtlety, and freshness—is lost in the EDP. The addition of rose and amber only serves to clutter it unnecessarily.
I simply love this fragrance. For one, I love spice, cardamom, tea notes and abstractly woody musky fragrances - which Voyage by Hermès certainly is. I like the idea that the fragrance's flacon design, by the fact that it rotates, is like a compass. A compass across the work of Jean Claude Ellena for the Hermès house. The fragrance opens citrusy and spiced -like finely ground cardamom, over which you lean your nose. I sense angelica or herbal musk similar to it, and a fresh fruitiness from juniper berry. In the middle, leafy green notes, abstract hedion, which can evoke tea, and a musky cedarwood finish. Simplicity is its strength. It belongs equally to everyday moments and to journeys, a sophisticated traveller's scent in an elegant, compact bottle. The fragrance is abstract, letting you choose where you travel. The beautiful drawings by Moebius fit perfectly with this impression. Voyage as navigation into different lands. This review is my tribute to Jean Claude Ellena. Thank you.
Abandon preconceptions, all ye who enter here. Hermes isn't known for its freshies, so if you expect something along the lines of Imagination or Versace Pour Homme, you will be disappointed. Hermes, like Amouage, is more about resinous, powerful, complex scents. If you can eject your expectations, though, you might find something you like, but maybe only after a few wears. The most divisive note for me is citronellol. This hits hard in the opening and fades very slowly, giving it an organic insect repellent accord that is hard to get around. The lemon isn't the bright variety that you expect from "Amalfi". Then the green notes of wormwood and juniper come along to provide a certain thickness. Their contribution brings to mind things like Beach Hut Man and Paula's Ibiza, two other "summer" fragrances that attempt to redefine the genre. Cedar, patchouli, tea and musk are all in there, but other than cedar, you might not recognize them if you didn't see the notes. Viewed positively, this subtlety is the mark of niche masters. Viewed negatively, this isn't going to be a mass pleaser. But I have always seen Hermes, with the possible exception of TDH, to be something that is appreciated by the wearer, and by those around the wearer that have some familiarity with the art of fragrance. This is unisex without being "feminine". It sits near the bottom of my TDHs, Bel Amis and Equipage, but the bottom Hermes is still higher than the top of other houses. And I expect that the two wearings of this are inadequate to really get to know this, which is another indication of quality. I'll let you know when I finish my 10ml decant if it makes the full bottle worthy designation.
Voyage d’Hermès EDT The first time I smelled it was in the perfume shop; it was on the bottom shelf of the Hermès display. Knowing nothing about it, I picked it up and sprayed twice onto the blotter. I let it air for a moment and then took a sniff. It was a direct hit. The first thing I felt was a sense of well-being, joy, energy. The fragrance is provocative, exciting; it stirs something within you that I would describe as a zest for life, a desire to take the plunge, a sense of movement. It possesses that ‘élan vital’ that I have rarely encountered in other perfumes. It is comforting, fresh, cheerful, playful, almost like a smile, but an adult smile—not sweet, but deep, sophisticated yet light; Jean Claude Ellena created this fragrance to be unisex, even though he doesn’t believe in gender distinctions in perfume, and he achieves this masterfully. The first notes you detect are the citrus notes of a fresh gin and tonic, juniper, and perhaps angelica root; it has that fresh woody quality, of a green forest, of cool, clean citrus, and a beautiful, soft woody base—a noble, calm, soothing wood. It is a perfume for the morning, for spring, for summer; I don’t think it’s a perfume for the heat, it’s a perfume of sunny freshness, of a gentle breeze. It’s a breath of life.
It's light, but with structure. It's natural. It's airy. It's leaning unisex, with a touch of a masculine edge. It has a role - but I see why it hasn't really taken off. 7.5/10
People talk about lemon, I don’t know where that comes from. This is spices and absolutely fireplace feelings, and I was terrified I wouldn’t like this one but I ended up loving it a little too much… and on me it just sits like it wants to be glued to me. One spray and it’s sticking to me like it loves me as much as I love it 😂 What I also like about it is that it has a “weird thing” (I’m going to call it weird but it’s really a good thing) that when it’s warm outside it adapts to that and when it’s cold it adapts to that. It’s like it has notes that can fit to whatever it needs to and it brings them out depending on what it needs to. It has a tendency to go towards the male direction but it’s not at all so overwhelming as a lot of male scents are. I couldn’t see a very girly girl wear this but with a more dark and elegant makeup and style this will sit very well. And be ware because this is a head turner, because it is very unique
A little overhyped but it's good. Could do with more musk for my taste as this almost wears like straight up citronella oil and is a bit sharp.
First Pass - Strong citrus. Lemon. Touch grassy 2 Hours Later - VERY lemon. Touch sweeter 4 Hours Later - Unwavering citrus, squarely lemon. Some other notes. Tea. Soapy. Grassy. Somewhat astringent Overall - I chose this fragrance because it was crafted by Jean-Claude Ellena. Voyage is surprisingly pedestrian compared to scents like Terre d’Hermes or Bel Ami Vetiver. Somewhere between hotel soap and a household cleaner, distinctly unisex It’s most similar to Montblanc Starwalker (2005) - so similar, it borders on plagiarism - since that fragrance came out 5 years prior to this one ***Scents, like tastes, are subjective. Wear what you like***
How Terre de Hermes became the household name icon and this one never really got the same acclaim, I struggle to understand. I've always found the woody, grapefruit bitter edges in TDH a little difficult to love. I've owned three bottles of it over the years and have always liked it but never loved it in the way so many do. Voyage D'Hermes came out at a similar sort of time and between them were responsible for moving Hermes from haute designer into a fragrance powerhouse in its own right in a mainstream way that was not the case before. TDH got all the flowers and VDH quietly went about its business in the shadow of its more illustrious stablemate. There is something I really like about VDH that isn't a specific note or accord, but the way it feels. But that said, the blending is excellent here. Star of the show is the way the cardamom and citrus (grapefruit?) are intertwined in a way that makes them indivisible to the nose. The citrus in the head notes is enriched with some juniper berries that give this gin and tonic vibes to me. There is a really fine green tea accord in the heart of this that is fresh but a little bit bitter, again reminding me of an afternoon GnT. It is so fresh and sparkly and green. Now, VDH doesnt leap off the skin the way TDH can, and it does sit close to the skin. You get 5-6 hours off it which is respectable and the natty little fold up travel bottle is perfect for keeping on you if you need to top up. I believe the premise of this was to make a superior traveling scent that you can keep in your luggage that smells clean and fresh but won't offend people with brash sillage, but also has a bit of class, sophistication and interest to it. If that was indeed the brief, then Hermes have absolutely smashed it out of the park. I especially enjoy the woodiness in the base that gives it a richness and a little bit of bitter spice on the skin that elevates this tremendously. It is linear, it isnt here to do somersaults on your skin and the drydown moves woodier as it fades but not much else, and that is fine by me. Another thing to note here is that it still smells very, very on point and hasn't aged in the slightest and you cannot say that for TDH in my view. It still sparkles and is still one of the best traveling fragrances I've come across. As alluded to earlier, I'm amazed this wasn't more popular. It is one of those hidden-in-plain-sight unisex gems that gets overlooked and misunderstood and that is a shame because it is absolutely superb. Three Word Summary - The Great Traveller Layering Suggestion: this goes amazingly over Meteore by LV to just shift things into a darker and more complex direction. Outfit suggestion: the good dark blue jeans, white base layer, Moncler polo shirt and slip on hybrid loafers. Cardigan in your bag in case the plane is cold. GMT on the wrist, AirPods in. Scent - 9/10 Sillage - 7/10 Drydown - 6/10 Bottle/packaging - 10/10 Performance - 6/10 38/50 which seems a little harsh to me.
This scent effortlessly exudes class.
genderless and airy. wear this when you want to feel clean and put together.
Dear Voyage. I trust you are well. I have not seen you in a long time, but today, I tried Gris Charnel, and it reminds me so much of you.
it is a bit sharper than the edp, lighter, no stiff sweetness, vegetal-sweet cream-like scent.
Oh I really like this... It's sophisticated, fresh, super green, calming and zen. Something about this scent feels deep and meaningful. I picture a lush, slightly damp green forest in the cool winter breeze. I've smelled many scents in my time and I don't tend to have deep feelings about them - I either like the smell or I don't. But there's something about this scent that almost has an emotional quality. It's not that this is the best thing I've ever smelled, but I've never smelled something that evoked imagery or feeling as much as this one. Also I won't lie, the bottle is really, really cool. A little confusing and hard to spray, but cool. I think this would be a badass signature scent for someone whose vibe is really high end but undercover, and a little artsy.
If someone were to ask me what kind of journey Voyage d’Hermès takes us on, I would say that above all, it’s a journey through the creative world of Jean-Claude Ellena himself. And while Voyage may not be the most groundbreaking of his works, compared to what now fills the shelves of mainstream perfumeries, it still feels distinctly original. From the very first spray, it intrigues with its diversity of aromas and a noticeable sense of evolution over time. It has a defined character, yet remains beautifully balanced between the masculine and the feminine. In this respect, Ellena has managed to craft what might be called the perfect unisex fragrance. Its versatility is undoubtedly one of its greatest strengths — Voyage d’Hermès feels equally at home in the office, on a date, or during a casual evening with friends. It shines particularly well in spring, when its airy brightness and gentle warmth come alive. It’s also the kind of scent I could easily imagine taking with me on a journey toward the setting sun. So then — who knows the way? My rating: Recommended. (6/7)
One year later, and I still love this. This is the ultimate travel fragrance in my books. I fly long-haul quite a lot for work, and both Voyage EDT and Prada Infusion De Vetiver have become indispensable items in my carry-on for when I want to spray on something unobtrusive after an airport lounge shower. You can't change my mind that Jean-Claude Ellena didn't intend this from its ideation to the end product as a travel-specific fragrance. First of all, there's the name "Voyage", second, there's the purposely limited/controlled sillage in order not to annoy your fellow passengers around you, third, the bottle design, fourth, the actual scent itself, which is so calming yet also alluring and evokes sensory feelings of jet-setting off to some far-off, exotic land (even if the actual reality for myself is mundane business travel). This is "sipping a gin and tonic in an airy, air-conditioned luxury hotel lobby bar somewhere in Southeast Asia" to a t. I'll reiterate that this is an extremely misunderstood fragrance. There's a purposeful practicality to it and a use for specific environments. As an example, I would never wear this for any formal events, at work (I work in a corporate environment; however, this may be appropriate for more casual workplaces), or out on a date. 8.5/10
Love at first smell! So chic, so genderless, so universal, so fresh. It has a meditative quality — calm yet captivating. A beautifully pleasant scent that feels elevated and effortless. Perfect as a signature fragrance if you want to smell classy yet intriguing.
Good opening, fresh and citrusy but not generic. Later it becomes a bit unpleasant.
Jean-Claude Ellena's Voyage edt starts off as the perfect gin martini (fresh juniper) transitioning into the ultimate clean scent all without an overdose of citruses or aldehydes. I find this fragrance to be a meditative exercise in quiet sophistication. The vibes are that of yachting on the Med with an inspiring gin cocktail as your constant companion while still being able to maintain your morning pilates routine.🍸🤸
The more I use it, the more I love it. Very versatile, A modern classic.
It’s a citrusy, bland scent. It’s almost Dior Cologne, because it focuses on citrus, and the citrus is quite natural, but there’s nothing interesting here. This shallowness even places Cologne higher, because there, at least, a drastic decision was made to capture lemon — here, even that advantage fades.
This is quite an ordinary citrus scent; polite, pleasant, unobtrusive but it has absolutely nothing to do with Juniper Sling. Some might have drawn a comparison simply because it contains juniper. The cardamom is noticeable but not overwhelming. It's the kind of fragrance you could give as a gift, but it's not something that will leave a lasting impression. No sillage, no longevity.
Reminds me of Versace Eau Fraiche and Dolce Gabbana Light Blue pour femme
Warm spicy ???🤔 It’s mentioned in main accords by fragrantica.. No way !! It’s citrus green fresh .. leaning towards herbaceous .. Such scents are meant to be light and refreshing.. it may not please the crowd .. but it ll definitely keep you fresh and happy for couple of hours.. you can re apply it .. it doesn’t cloy you or others around you.. it’s expensive for the kind of performance it gives..but scent profile.. ingredients are top notch !!
Very nice and pleasant smelling fragrance but like the other reviews stated it does not last long and would only last on my body 2 to 3 hours but it is great for a night out or an evening date at a beach where you don't need a overpowering fragrance that last more than 8 hours but a subtle one that last until you get home from dinner or an evening date and take a nice long shower to end your day
So Fresh lemony tea scent with spicy green cardamom. Simple and sophisticated gentlemen summer scent. Very underrated.
Voyage opens with a slightly sharp, slightly spicy juniper note; it's more juniper than gin to my nose. It's pleasant enough, but it doesn't last long, just a few minutes in fact, before transitioning to lemon and warm cardamom notes. For the next 30 minutes or so, it's the lemon that dominates, before cedar starts to come in. From then to its final stages of development a couple of hours in, it is muted lemon and soft pine notes all the way. In its final stages before disappearing completely, those lemon and pine notes start to come across to me as a bit plasticky/PVC smelling, and there's something there that reminds me of modelling clay, too. That in itself is not unpleasant to my nose, but it's not what I'm searching for. Voyage lacks the fairly realistic G&T opening of a fragrance such a Penhaligon's Juniper Sling and because of that alone, I'll not be buying a full bottle of. Tested: 1ml decant. Seasons / Occasions: Warm weather. Informal occasions. Key thoughts: Juniper rather than gin opening. Basic lemon and pine dry down. Overall rating: 4/10. Buy full bottle: No.
I simply love the smell of this fragrance. It’s so fresh and natural in a way that it really makes sense to its name. Sadly, this amazing voyage doesn’t last long and you can’t feel anything after 2 hours (maybe less) and this is so disappointing even for a citrusy fresh fragrance in a way it brakes my heart, cos I really love the smell.
