Acqua di Giò

found this in my dad's drawer—story goes, an aunt gifted it to him years ago, but he never wore it as it's a feminine-leaning scent. I agree! though it can be perceived as unisex the combination of notes lends this a feminine, airy freshness that reminds me of butterfly gardens and flowery ponds. not a scent I usually reach for as I don't feel it mixes well with my skin chemistry, but it's an enjoyable scent on its own.

My first love. Finished 3 (maybe 4) bottles. Best fresh scent for women in my opinion. Great balance of sweet/sharp, floral/woodsy, soft musky. Beautiful drydown. Beautiful start to finish.

Really lovely perfume, I wore it recently and my mum thought I smelled like the flowers in the garden. As it wears off throughout the day you are left with a slightly soapy smell, but that is really towards the end of the day as the flowery / beachy scent lingers for a long time before that.

Unique fresh floral. Memorable. Feminine and beautiful. Complex. In my memory since the first contact and finally mine. Not an easy scent to describe. It is both exotic, floral and aquatic. Peony and melon, freesia and pineapple, jasmine and marine breeze. So charming and feminine. If you have a chance to buy it as this is still in production - do not wait. It is the scent of summer air filled with exotic fruits, sunshine and ripe flowers. Amazing. It creates a scented bubble for a long time, without any tiring effect. Great performance. It projects for ~6 hours then becomes a skin scent but I feel it at 8 hours mark in gentle wafts and in the morning as an echo of a beautiful musky drydown. Superb.

Very generic aquatic scent to me. Like, it's a great choice for those who want to get started with exploring aquatic notes but yeah.... thats all there is to it. No complex notes, just safe.

I have to say, I have had an irrational anger towards this scent since it first came out! Why? I adore Gio! It had a huge display at the fragrance counter back in the day. I fell head over heels for that scent and knew I could never be without it! I walked through the department store one day and saw my beautiful Gio downgraded to a smaller place at the counter and this was displayed in its place. It was touted as a newer fresher take on the original. I sprayed it and scoffed “not even comparable!” Gio is my true love and this just didn’t measure up as far as I was concerned. Suddenly, this fragrance was everywhere. Then my baby was discontinued! 😱 And this was still readily available! Whyyyyyy!!!??!! I vowed I would never wear this! 😂 I know it’s ridiculously childish, but I viewed it as the cause of my Gio being replaced with an inferior poser! I resisted for 30 some years until it showed up in a mystery lot I bid on from a second hand site. I put it away, next to my Gio and still never grabbed for it! I’m finally trying it today, going through my “sell” pile. I really want to be mad at this, but if I give up on being a complete weirdo about my Gio, I have to admit that this is a beautiful fragrance, as much as it pains me to do. I can’t help but love most Armani fragrances! The weather is warming up and I’m going to start wearing this. I won’t ever measure up to my first love, but ok, fine, I can appreciate it’s beauty! I may let bygones be bygones, and grow to love this. Who knows, I may have misjudged it all these years and never gave it a fair chance. I wouldn’t call it a freshie by today’s standards, there is a lovely depth to it that I quite like. It actually would wear well in any season. I can smell faint reminders of the original in this too, which will definitely bring a smile to my face! I’m assuming this is a fairly early formulation, the bottle is just like my Gio but with the frosted glass. Looks like I’ll keep this around after all!

Such iconic 90s fragrance. In my teenage memory, it was an aquatic scent. But smelling it again last week, it’s so much more than that. From my nose, it starts off quite powdery with the hyacinth, which is a note I don’t enjoy, but that fades within minutes. Then it becomes an amazing green floral, with hints of peach and fruit. It’s so pretty and fresh. This is perfect for a hot and humid summer. A classic that still rocks to this day. I’m curious to see how Acqua Di Gioia compares to this.

A crazy fragrance. Although I wasn't around for summer in Miami '95, I imagine this is the smell. Bought it by mistake but have come to love it for its novelty. It has a vodka note. Like what? It's also odd because it is certainly aquatic, but there are no icy synthetics of modern perfume and there is no salt or sand either, therefore it's really not limited to the interpretation of it as a summer fragrance, but it is definitely refreshing. It's a time capsule and I'm really glad to have it.

One of my all time favourites. It is a nice refreshing small for when that spring breeze hits or those hot summer days. It isn't overpowering either, which makes it nice to wear at work.

I don't get any "summer beach" vibes from this perfume, as other reviewers have mentioned. So don't go expecting some "spring break", "girls gone wild" generic fragrance because of that. Acqua di Gio is absolutely nothing like that. It's mountain meadow on a misty spring morning, with a hint of frost still in the air. It's an elusive, ethereal, enchanting creature of wild forests untouched by civilization, with lily-of-the-valley and hyacinth crooning softly in the foreground, jasmine and freesia weaving their siren song in between, and amber and sandalwood whispering of warm sensuality binding it all together. The aromatic composition itself is also impressively consistent. The sylphid symphony of scents you get from the very beginning remains unchanged five minutes later, an hour later, even six hours later, not a single note fading away. Unfortunately, that's about it. Six hours at most and it's gone. I suppose that's the downside of creating a quietly alluring, delicate fragrance like this one. I must also add that it's best when applied on skin (not on clothes), but not freshly showered skin, because it can become a bit screechy and sharp -- for the first few minutes only, then it settles into its usual beguiling self.

Nabbed a decant of this intending another extended walk down memory lane leading to full bottle purchase. In college I always used to sneak in a spray or two when visiting a particular friend. In those days she chain-smoked and guzzled vodka and this scent suited her perfectly. Kind of boozy, syrupy, a cross between a packaged fruit cup and a dip in the Caribbean. Fleeting but delicious. Well this most recent formulation (presumably what was on the shelf when it was replaced with Acqua di Gioia) has all the right DNA but it’s lacking the boozy vodka base. Or has my memory confused my expectations….this also hasn’t been an exciting reach this summer, more of a “I guess I should go ahead and use this up”, just ok kind of fragrance. Surprisingly it was Versense that floored me and insisted I keep the party going with a full bottle. So long, Acqua di Giò! I always did love to pronounce your name alla italiana (kisses fingers).

The original is still amazing, an Italian summer reinterpretation of Gio, for an EDT last quite a bit, I now understand what all the fuzz was about, the reformulation with the plastic gold cap however is criminal, very weak and has a fruity note that all kids colognes have.

Beautiful sweetish powdery 90s aquatic, very harmonious and well rounded

Pretty, but weak in its modern formulation. I had higher hopes for it on account of its bombastic opening, a big bouquet of dewy but substantial flowers. Jasmine and hyacinth are especially prominent to my nose. Also present is a healthy dose of pineapple, so rare in perfumery. It all comes together to create a wonderful and distinctly ‘90s aquatic freshness… for about three hours. That’s when it becomes all but undetectable without smushing my nose into my wrist. I have to admit, I am disappointed. I am tempted to seek out an older bottle and see if this beauty was always so short-lived.

Acqua di Gio, GA, for women, is exquisite. It's probably the closest thing to the original but modernized version of Caress liquid coral/pink shimmering soap. Not the original vintage bar soap from long ago, which was more aquatic unisex, like Coast bar soap. I love both, but this is very close to the more feminine updated one. It has bursting floral notes and a very elegant soft hyper real fuzzy peach. It's extremely breezy, and an ultimate delicate woman scent. Kind of also has a Cover Girl, clean powder make up touch. It's not at all intrusive and it can be worn daily. It's very soothing and almost spa-like quality. Since the lotion no longer exists, I pair it with a peach lotion and body spray (Pretty As a Peach, B&B Works)to enhance. If you want another perfume that is similar but more youthful, less expensive Jimmy Choo L'eau, may work. Another can be Exclamation by Coty.

I love both Gioia and Gio for women so much.

I’m wearing Acqua di Gio for many years. It’s a serious green creamy scent that smells like MONEY and CLASS. The juice is out of this world I frequently get compliments at the end of the day, especially from men. It smells like a luxury hotel, like a luxury tropical vacation, like a walk-through a beautiful green luxe garden. I’ve cycled through a number of bottles and of course I like spraying it on my hair and clothes no one is ever offended by this scent. I believe this classic is a must have.

This is the scent of that fleeting time when a young woman first becomes aware of her femininity – innocent still, but on the cusp of something new. We all know the exquisite beauty of a girl who is fully open, unguarded, untouched by cynicism. It makes you want to protect her at all costs. Others, perhaps envious of that lost phase, might wish to destroy it. This perfume is that moment in time bottled. This is the fragrance of grace. Of innocence. Of unguarded beauty that does not seek to manipulate. I only wish the bottle and name reflected its soul better. It ought to be called Daphne or Persephone, from a house with a poetic name, bottled in forest green glass with white flowers. Don’t judge this scent by the bottle cap. Let it speak on your skin.

In my teenage years in the late 90s this was my signature scent. I adored it! Basically me in a bottle and lasted sooo long. I can recognise the smell anywhere. I really need to get myself a bottle again…for old times sake.

i got my first perfume compliment with this perfume. I think its so suitable for summer and it reminds me of ocean and beach. Fresh and floral love it!

This is so fresh and great for right now as it warms up and the flowers and blooming all around. You can really smell the hyacinth!

A Mellow Mood Something cool to drink on a 70 degree night. This fragrance is so urbane to me. It's a whole MOOD. Nice fitted jeans, crisp white button down, pumps, and a flat cap. It's not the most feminine of fragrances, but something about it is so attractive. It's the epitome of how I view myself... Cool and laid-back. Great projection and sillage.... A little goes a long way. As always.... I LOVE the 90s

This was my signature scent all throughout high school and college. Then they either reformulated it or something about me radically changed, because one day I went to repurchase it and suddenly it was overpowering and gross. I stopped wearing it for about a decade. They discontinued it, and then it was reissued, so I picked up a bottle and tried it again. Still gross - intense, sharp, and burned my nose, whereas it used to be smooth and bright. Now I just keep a bottle in the closet to remind myself that it doesn’t work for me any more.

I love the last review! This was my signature scent in… 1996! It’s hidden because it’s so old. It was everywhere back then. So happy to know it can be a gem again. I ordered a decant recently, out of nostalgia. Unfortunately, my tastes have changed, and I find most florals difficult. Though it’s not a strict floral, it is green, aquatic, and the flowers aren’t screetchy, but I still get mostly a blend of flowers. So if you like a well-blended floral, give it a go. It also has a very strong sillage. A friend back then told me once I was wearing too much perfume (even though I’ve always been a one or two spray person). So yeah, a strong, beautiful, green and watery floral. Glad people still like it today.

I received two compliments wearing this perfume. Smells like very expensive face cream or luxury makeup. Can't wait to try the Gioia one. But this? A hidden gem , I am so happy it hasn't gone viral or mainstream. I'd like to keep my treasure rare. Something only me can wear and to be known for.

I can definitely make out the vodka and the smell of fresh flowers. The powdery notes blend everything together in a unisex concoction, while toning everything down to the scent of freshly -washed bedsheets in an island hotel.

This perfume is my favourite. Imagine you’re standing at a hilltop by the beach, the ocean breeze sweeps over a field of flowers and it reaches your nose. It smells like Greek summer in a bottle. I would never change it for the world. I get so many compliments wearing this. Everyone comments on how I smell just like the beach. I recommend it to anyone that’s into aquatic floral scents. Also it has longevity and projection so don’t be hindered by the Eau de toilette, it’s not diluted. This is my second bottle of the 100 ml and I consider it my signature scent (this and Jadore). It’s unique and it’s DNA hasn’t been replicated yet (and hopefully it won’t)

I wrote (date) 12/18/17: "I had it, and I still love it, so very nice, must have a bottle some day," and yesterday a new bottle finally arrived in my mailbox! And, thx a lot to the privat seller! -This perfume beholdes so many good memories of my youth, l was "blond", and chic, and prosperious, and a happy mama to my first born son, and, l was so very contant and very GIO! All of you have already described GIO, l mean in the positiv ways, and now l'm suddenly back into my happy GIO-mood again, and l wish for peace and love and moore perfumes for everybody on this beautiful planet!

Again, a treasure. The point is, it's the kind of fragrance you wear for the wholesome ingredients and the crispy, fascinating scent rather than to be noticed. Which is the kind of fragrance I prefer.

I simply adore this fragrance. Have been wearing it for years. It’s recently been hard to track down but I found a bottle on “Notino”. I get water melon and cucumber, it’s very fresh and beautiful! Stunning for summer. I am trying many new fragrances and had to sell some to make way for the new (I can’t afford them all). I sold this, but I am regretting it terribly, because I’ve come up against a brick wall and can’t find a fragrance I like after many samples and blind buys, I now have 2 loves, but neeed a third. Maybe I’ll get this again 😍
