Eau Sauvage

I have both eau sauvage edt and fiero. Fiero is like eau sauvage on steroids. Eau sauvage is sophisticated. If performance is really important to you, get fiero but you can smell the modern aroma chemicals to improve its performance. For me, I'll just reapply. And you can with this. It won't choke out a room upon application. Fiero is a great perfume but you don't need both. For me it's eau sauvage edt. I'll look out for a vintage if I can get it under 100 dollars but this modern formula is still beautiful

I agree that Eau Sauvage is not a strong scent, but subtle and discreet. It was designed that way intentionally, and not to cut costs or deceive consumers. Eau Sauvage comes from an era when beast mode fragrances for men were almost nonexistent. Back in the mid-60s guys wore suits and ties, and didn't wear baseball caps in restaurants. Colognes that projected discreetly were considered classy. To enjoy Eau Sauvage now, you have to get into that same mindset. Stop comparing it to Le Male Elixir or today's Arabic fragrances.

Always the right reach. Its citrusy focus is fresh, bright, and uplifting. Sure, performance could be better, so just bring along a decant to reapply. 🩶💛

This opens up with a prominent zing, very citrus forward but almost like lemon grass kind of citrus. There's an underlying green quality here. It dries down to a smooth and creamy vetiver note accompanied by some rosemary and other light spices. It's very well blended but it's not for me per se. Reminds me a bit of a mosquito repellent.

A timeless classic. Not for boys. Smells like black licorice and lemon with a slight herbal note.. Should last much longer at this price point though 7.9/10

A masterpiece. Perhaps the last fragrance from the classic era when all men wore suits and ties, this represents the end of an era, an era of wholly different and in my opinion, objectively elegant taste. Surely inspired many modern fragrances, this perfume doesn’t smell dated at all, but recognizably from another time.

Opens with a bright burst of juicy lemon, and as it dries down you get a fresh, masculine and well-blended mix of woody, floral and herbal notes. The dry down feels a bit muted compared to the opening. Great summer fragrance but is suitable all year around. The only major downside is the performance, but the fragrance is honestly so good that I don't mind. I'd love to try a vintage bottle.

I should like this but unfortunately just don’t. It just doesn’t work on my skin. It’s decent in the opening but too sharp and after a few hours on me develops a faint anlmost ammonia kind of smell. It’s disappointing.

A masterpiece imo. This fragrance epitomizes fougere. It is ‘mature’ but light, effervescent, clean and comforting. Freshly shaved and showered European gentleman. Cannot be overdone.

Smells classy and classic...but not something I need. Too lemon-y, just a little bit "old guy" smelling.

This smells great... for a few seconds and then it disappears (even with jojoba oil applied to skin to try and make it last longer)... the eau de parfum version is way better in terms of performance but is less citrusy/lemony than this version. Pretty disappointed for the cost, fortunately I only purchased the travel spray size. This kind of reminds me a little bit of Zino by Davidoff, spray it on your clothes if you want it to last longer. I suggest trying the sample size before investing in a big bottle but the choice is ultimately yours.

If you use this nearly everyday as your primary fragrance the performance improves by magnitudes. It has sticky lingering quality. It clings to your surroundings and is absorbed in. I was getting much better performance after a couple weeks of using it primarily. My body and surroundings absorb this fragrance then it starts to radiate from me. Went on vacation without it and returned to my home with my room having the eau de Sauvage smell hit me very obviously as I opened the door. It works really well as a signature scent. It does have that vintage citrus barbershop old man musk. Took a break from wearing it. Have done a spray here and there. I can pick it up much better for much longer now. I can't explain why it was so weak at first and why I can smell it so much better now. Maybe it's that lingering ok old man tart musk? Maybe because I'm that old man now? Sometimes it smells wonderful and uplifting. Sometimes it's too sour and musky, reminding me why I didn't like this one as a kid. It's got the insecticide citruses and herbs smell.

It indeed smells old money and classic to the point that spraying it over a casual outfit (without a shirt and well fitted trousers) almost felt inappropriate to me. Masculine, clean, refreshing, but with an edge which makes me think I'd use it for a spring/summer evening date.

A beautiful, dreamy yet manly classic Eau De Cologne style fragrance, that is on Oakmoss and Pachouli based steroids. Gorgeous, and alluring scent as always, but the longevity is one of an EDC. Edit; This scent is incredible, and it has done something I extremely unexpected. A great friend of mine also enjoys wearing this, and the drydown on him smells nothing like it does on me, and it goes into a very approachable, yet incredibly shocking lemon sherbet mixed with sun protection lotion ( if that's how you call it )

Nice ”old money” fragrance without being outdated, classy bottle with magnetic cap sealing off it’s class BUT Longevity is piss poor, like very very poor and i’m not even one obsessing about strong fragrances Maybe if you don’t sissy spray and carry a decant it could work?

A recent favorite for me, along with Azzaro pour Homme and some others besides that one. Eau Sauvage can be worn just about anyplace, even at work since it has a classic and clean scent, It is a pleasant citrusy lightly effervescent floralesque witha touch of herbals in it.

A wonderful fragrance only brought down by its performance. I'm not usually the type to care much about that sort of thing, and I tend to consider most frags fairly strong, but this one is noticeably weaker to me. Which is a real shame considering how good the juice is. I wish the price were a bit lower to reflect the cut performance of modern formulations. (Not that I've smelled the vintage myself, but with the projection's longevity this short it's not hard to believe.) Know ahead of time that it's going to settle into intimate range fairly quickly if you intend to buy a full bottle. I'm not some dudebro that needs to announce himself to the building before the door opens, but this is a touch too subtle for my taste. Hopefully it sticks to clothes better in future wears. Besides that? Pure class. Not a single complaint about the scent itself. In fact, this is the first time I've truly loved citrus in a fragrance. That might sound odd given how ubiquitous citrus notes are in anything but winter fragrance nowadays, but they're usually blended far too loud, and scream overtop the rest of the composition in my opinion. Especially so in many modern frags that have that artificially hyped-up sort of citrus that almost feels like you're snorting the fruit's juice rather than smelling it. I bring it up to clarify how this frag is the opposite of that - and at the time of writing - is the sole example of such an interpretation of the note that I'm aware of. The citrus here sits comfortably along with the rest of the composition, blending in beautifully with the greenery and adding a fresh, tart zest of cleanliness that I'm not used to having in fougères. It's elegant. Doubly so because of the note's realism by not oversaturating itself. It's not a headache-inducing yellow to keep the children distracted by the pretty colors. The slightly muted nature of it really goes a long way for me in selling the scent's sophistication. A citrus-leaning fragrance not stabbing me in the nose? Has hell frozen over? Am I having a stroke? In all seriousness, this scent was added onto the favorites pile pretty much immediately. I knew within 2-3 minutes that I'd struck perfumery gold again as long as the drydown didn't suck, and it doesn't. The citrus and fougère structure both have this wonderfully musky, subtly floral profile that holds everything together and adds finishing cohesion. These two accords overlap in a way that feels slightly soapy, yet ultimately human and lived in. I think this is probably the part that some people consider "outdated". I guess I can see how it might come across as off to a nose that only understands heavy molecule-driven scents. This fragrance doesn't make everything as bright as possible, or pump enough Ambroxan into the air to make a ww1 vet have flashbacks of the trenches if they were still around. Personally I think the vintage approach is what makes it so good. It feels more naturalistic, even if it isn't. Modern perfumery can sometimes feel weirdly sterile with how notes can float in empty space. I hope you get what I mean and I'm not talking nonsense here. The current aversion to animalics or anything but the absolute cleanest of musks can ironically make fragrances less personable at times. These elements are often what I appreciate the most in vintage perfumery. So no, I don't find the scent "dated". It's old-school yes, but in a good way. It's not grandpa feebly hobbling around, it's a lense into another era. It's olfactory art that reflects back an after-image of the world it was created in.

I remember being a kid and Dior smelled gross to me. I didn't like the sour bitter tartness of natural ingredients. Has a rindy insecticide smell. Now that I'm much older I can finally appreciate these timeless fragrance masterpieces. My first impression now is a bright citrus opening. It's really mellow at first. Takes a few minutes for it to settle and the citruses really brighten up. Citruses, herbs, light florals, woody musk. High quality composition. Timeless French luxury. I wanted to recommend a couple fragrances similar to this but this one did its thing and changed my mind. It kept developing, kept getting better. And what smelled like it was going to be a short lived EDC type citrus kept on going. It's not great performance, of course it smells watered down compared to what once seemed to be. It's an oakmoss scent. It would be great if a few sprays were super potent and lasted all day. It's good to dream. Alas it's a citrus herbal freshie with a version or Dior's high quality house musks. Starts out smelling so natural. Balancing the bitter sour tart citruses on a wire. I'm not worthy of ranking or scoring this. I already had "masterpiece" floating around in my head, that pretty much means 9/10 because performance is wanting. I'm now a full grown vintage adult. Vintage timeless fragrances is where it's at. You can really see lots of inspirations and similarities coming from this one. It's the elder blue statesmen. A bit of ambrox and a touch of calone. Now imagine when this came out in 1966. How much softer it likely was compared to other mens fragrances of the time. It probably wasn't Grandpa juice then. I think my Dad was in highschool then before beginning his worldly adventures. I can remember this smell more and more as I get to know it again. This is where I must mention that the performance changes after wearing this everyday for awhile. After about 2 weeks it just started sticking to me more permanently. Like my body has absorbed it and started producing it like its own musk. Even out of the shower still sticking. Getting away with using way less now. Went from about 1ml a day to now about 1/2 a ml per day. I have taken a day off here and there to wear something else and it hasn't interfered yet. I've used it about 5 days out of a week since I got it. I guess this one likes me back. Worth it.

Fresh and aromatic, it definitely smells dated but I still enjoy it. It has a niche place in my collection since it only lasts for about an hour which is fine if you just want to smell fresh for a little bit and you're able to wear another fragrance afterwards.

Classic citrus floral barbershop from the 60s. Light, gentlemanly, refreshing. Can't go wrong with this one. Does not smell dated at all but leans late 20s and up. Longevity is slightly below average, so add an extra spray. 8/10

Great scent. I rock a shaved head now, but it reminds me of getting my hair cut with my dad growing up. Fresh and clean, and a little bit shaving-cream esque. The EDC is a little longer lasting, but I prefer the scent of this one. Fresh, green, masculine, and not too loud.

Timeless and masculine fresh scent. No wonder it's Alain Delon's favourite fragrance.

Herbal and refreshing. Natural. Truly a reference fragrance. Absolutely gorgeous.

I have my late father's 100ml splash bottle of ES cologne from the 90s and it's magnificent; not damaged by age nor old-school at all, just minty, mossy and effervescent, and surprisingly strong. I think sometimes it's actually the reformulation of older perfumes that gives them that stale old-fashioned effect. I wear this sometimes, but mostly just enjoy smelling the bottle every now and then, because it reminds me of how my dad smelled when I was a child, which is nice, but it feels strange on my skin.

Razor sharp oakmoss, vetiver, citrus, rosemary combination and the epitome of Italian barbershop bitter fougère. Probably will not appeal as much to younger guys, unless they enjoy the non-sweet, high-end aftershave accord. Only older gentlemen could wear this casually and it is best in spring and summer, but might pair interestingly well in the cold months in a cooling way.

I sampled this at the mall today hoping to really like it. Once I applied it, I realized that my grandfather wore this for years as it’s unmistakable. So I found myself constantly smelling my arm because it reminds me of him. It opens up with an intense citrus aroma that dies down within 15 minutes if that. Once it becomes a skin scent with the best notes becoming far more apparent. It kinda has a barbershop feel to it, but I found this kind of off putting. Even though this is a classic sent, he feels really dated to me. But like anything else try it yourself but for me this is a pass.

I'm 29 years old and can't believe people overlook this fragrance. This is STUNNING and for some damn reason, people describe it WRONG. Yes, it's a burst of citrus initially, but it blends so well in the dry down, it becomes this powdery, floral citrus and has this very light leathery note to it. It's so beautiful I had to order 200ml bottle and don't care about longevity because I spray on clothes any way. If this was good enough for Steve McQueen, then it's a banger. P.S, there is nothing like this, no clone, not Pour Monsieur not even the Parfum version of this.
