Eau Sauvage Extreme

I just finished my vintage bottle.Despite its age at least 30 years old the quality of this juice was so exceptional that notes pyramid were untouched. Its a much stronger version of original eau sauvage less lemony more lavender and oakmoss with great longevity and phenomenal sillage.

I think perhaps quite a few reviews here should rather be placed under the 2010 version, and they are far from identical. First: What do you get from the vintage version? I got mine recently and I have not been able to find out when the batch was produced. But being discontinued since 1993, it is at least 32 years old and unsealed since I don’t know when. I get a spicy and fresh top, with some basil, lavender and rosemary. Maybe bay leaves but not a lot. All in all the top is well blended, not very citrusy. That could be due to age, so if anyone get a sealed one I am curious to hear how the top is perceived. The mid and base go straight into exactly the same territory where you will find all versions of the OG I have tried: A bit skanky, a bit spicy, a bit patchouli, sandalwood and floral notes. It is also musky and maybe ever so slightly aquatic from aldehydes. All in all, the Extreme must have been a bit of an anachronism on its release in 1984, with a style that recalls the 60s and 70s as if the 80s had not started yet. Does it compare to Extreme 2010? Not really. It is rather a spicier OG, and the base is a constant reminder of where it comes from. Having said that, they are of course related and share many notes. It is interesting to experience that spraying them each on a different hand at the same time, they seem much more similar than when you give them a full wear alone in the spotlight. I would say that all skanky aspects often perceived grandpa’ish have been removed from the 2010. There was also mint added in the new millennium, in a manner that maybe gives old time barbershop vibes too, only different ones than those you get from the 1984 version that has no mint at all. Yet the 2010 is clearly more modern. I got a very good deal for the vintage bottle, and I am very happy to have it. I don’t think I need both (my 2010 is a large decant). But if you really like nerdy deep dives, there are interesting comparisons to be made. I can’t guarantee I’ll wait until the vintage is empty before getting 2010…

Hello fragrance fam! On today's blog about Hidden Gems we have an amazing flanker titled EAU Sauvage Extreme. In my opinion its a stronger, and more basil forward version of the original EDT. I believe there was only one formulation of this perfume. Released shortly after nitro musks were removed from perfumery and discontinued around 1993 before the appearance of the "green dot" on boxes. Be careful though there is also a version that was released in 2010, that was more of a modern style ambroxan heavy scent, that bears little resemblance to any version of Eau Sauvage. The vintage versions will have the word "Concentree" in the title, on the front of the bottle. Has nothing to do with Oscar de La Renta pour Lui, it's an original stand out aroma, maybe the best dark green scent.

Vintage one is the best dark green smell with some sweetness, the next day on clothes it's the most beautiful sweet smell 10/10

SAUVAGE, EXTRÊME AND CONCENTRÉE It's a rare pleasure to review an old-timer like this one. I have been lucky enough to find this rare gem in one of my suppliers and for a sale price. I hope it will last for a few years because I will be very stingy with its use. This perfume is somewhat complex, just the way I like it! The opening consists mainly of minty floral citrus blended a long-lasting lavender note; the heart proposes spicy camphorous woods, together with aldehydes; the base makes you notice bitter sombre woods, with hints of amber, patchouli and musk. Comparing it with the original vintage or with the reformulated Eau Sauvage, the vintage "Extrême Concentrée" edition opens with a bit less citrus, so with less freshness. You may experience a stronger lavender and rosemary notes with some sweetness and a bit of patchouli. At this stage, you may faintly compare it either with the "Acqua di Parma Colonia" or Guerlain's "Eau de Cologne du Coq" DNAs, but it is a bit woodier, stronger and manlier than both. As the fragrance develops, you notice that the original "Eau Sauvage" herbal facets are still present together with persistent citrus and lavender notes. You can really smell the rosemary and the basil notes together with a mossy and woddy nuance. The original "Eau Sauvage" DNA is still recognizable. At the development end and during the drydown, the global scent is woodier and more resinous. It does have a slightly better performance than the 1966 "Eau Sauvage" original, and can be assumed as a more masculine flanker. In summary you do face a stronger, woodier and mossier Eau Sauvage. Although I like the original scent, I do prefer this one for being more complex, woodier, manlier and denser. The performance is "enough" for this type of scent, beating the original Eau Sauvage, and clearly defeating the last reformulation that I believe took place in 2012 (I am not sure if this date is correct). "Eau Sauvage Extrême" The "Eau Sauvage Extrême" (2010 edition) it's very good and by current trends can be considered as a more modern version of here analysed "Eau Sauvage Extrême Concentrée". Of course, "Eau Sauvage Extrême" is more appealing to the younger ones, but more mature people do not go clubbing all the time; that age concept does not apply to them. So, in my opinion, it's not as glamorous, classy and performant as it is the "Eau Sauvage Extrême Concentrée". Parfum Editions The two "Parfum" editions lauched in 2012 and 2017 are very good perfumes as well. In my opinion, they must be considered as new (and more modern) fragrances. They should no longer be considered flankers of the original "Dior Eau Sauvage" (EDT 1966 edition). In summary, Dior's Eau Sauvage Extrême Concentrée is super classy, manly and almost intoxicant. It's a magnificent complement for an Armani suit, a Ferragamo silk tie and a Burberry cashmere scarf. Please flirt with your loved one, and toast with two glasses of Veuve Clicquot Reserve. Life is too short not to be fully lived and perfumed with Dior's Eau Sauvage Extrême Concentrée. Let this gem run through some ratings: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ - Scent opening: 9.0 (lovely citrus/lavender opening spiced with rosemary) - Scent Dry Down: 9.5 (alluring fresh ambary woody and mossy dry down) - Longevity: 7.5 (up to 6 hours on my skin, with 3 sprays, above average for this type of scent) - Sillage: 7.0 (sillage peak up to 4 feet; projection for 2 hours) - Versatility: 9.5 (Just avoid extremely cold weather) - Usability.: 9.0 (very good for the office, daily use, night out, going to the Club, events, ...) - Compliments: 8.5 (it will get you many compliments because you smell clean, elegant and respectable) - Uniqueness: 9.0 (It shares DNA with all other Dior's "Eau Sauvage") - Quality: 10.0 (faultless) - Presentation: -- (not rated as my flask is close to 30 years old, although in mint condition) - Price: 8.5 (€50 for 100 ml non-tester, but it has been a special friendly price for me) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ - Average: 8.75/10.00 between 7 and 8 => above average; between 8 and 9 => recommended; equal or bigger than 9 => don't miss it; My opinion on "Eau Sauvage Extrême Concentrée" vintage 1982 edition: For me this is the Eau Sauvage edition I like the most. Smells like spearmint toothpaste to me.

Doesn't last particularly long, 2 or 3 hours tops but wonderful smell and fair value for money.

Does anyone can tell the height of 100 ml vintage bottle with cap (tall bottle)?

First of all, i am reviewing this fragrance from a bottle that has the 2013 batchcode, yet it is way older than that, probably 2003? And the version is eau extreme concentree I am saying this cause i have smelt the 2012 version, which is basically the same with what You can find now in the stores, and what i have is different. The bottle has a non-magnetic cap. So...this version. Probably 2003 or older. Has a very strong opening with lemmon and mint but mostly lemmon, very old fashioned, it is so different from the curent version found today in stores....When i first spray this, i thought that the bottle got old or bad or something, because it was so different and had strong and anoying lime smell, way not alike from what i knew about the curent version which i tested it in 2012 and again in 2021. After that first half hour the magic begins...it is so well blended. After the first half hour, it really start to resemblance the eau sauvage parfum version (i had the 2017 formula of that). It has similar drydown with the curent version of eau sauvage extreme. All in all, very Well blended fragrance, in the old fashion genre with modern touches. It really has good performance, both longevity and projection. Ok it is not a beast, yet it delivers big time. I feel it on myself after 6, 7 hours from aplication, and quite strong too. I do not have many fragrances that still perform after 6 hours. I love this fragrance, this old formula.

This one smells very nice. I was very pleased with it. I already have the Parfum (2017), which I adore, and Extreme smells quite similar. Performance of Extreme is softer (with 3 sprays, after 8 hours the scent was already gone), which makes it summer safe in my opinion. After being blown away by the Parfum I was going to explore other fragrances in the line. After trying Extreme I think I'll just get a backup bottle of Parfum insted. I don't think it can get any better than that one.

Amazing! Much more herbal and “green” than the original (1966). I looove it! Basil, Elemi, Lavender, Lemon&Bergamot are the key notes. What does it smell like? It’s exactly like a cross between the original Eau Sauvage & Azzaro Pour Homme. Two great staple fragrances. This is better than the 2010’s version. It is a bit more herbal and bitter, which i love, but they’re extremely close one to another, not worth hunting down this one. Today’s Eau Sauvage (OG) is so neutered (check my review on it), yet this one still remains strong, masculine and powerful, yet modern. An AMAZING MANLY MEN’S fragrance.

In this case, reformulation is really a disaster. Got a white box bottle in a swap as a backup, because I have a nineties bottle using . Disaster, disrespectful to the original version. And don't talk about the original release/ formula, cause Roudnistka. Oh god, marketing is the worst enemy of the art of perfumery.

Hi, I just found a bottle of this perfume. The nose behind this is Edmond Roudnitska. He was an intelligent man. In the 80’s he made base accords for the current fresh perfumes, you will not feel any thing wrong wearing this common scent nowadays. The minty notes are dominating the opening and then it goes “99% of armani acqua di gio, 1% Francois Demachy Eau Sauvage”. In 2012, Francois Demachy Took the 1% and made the mysterious myrrh version of Eau sauvage. If F.D. Made his in the 80’s he would destroyed all the perfume markets. My dad never asked me about what perfume I wear, but he had asked me once when I wore 2012 version. I would ask him what is his perfume if he wore the Edmond Roudnitska version !! Thank you

The new (already discontinued?) version of ESE is nothing like the original ESE. The Demachy reissue is just... unnecessary. Disrespectful to the legacy.

A class act. Been wearing Eau Sauvage Extrème my entire adult life. I was already a fan of Eau Sauvage since first discovering it in an airline amenity kit but was somewhat disappointed with its crappy performance - so Extreme was a no brainer. At high school I worked weekends at a city bookstore which not only gave me the opportunity to meet interesting people, but the disposable income to copy their style. When Eau Sauvage Extreme was released, I ran out to buy it and in the years since, it has been with me through major milestones and significant life events, from my high school formal to job interviews, weddings and funerals - as such it not only evokes happy memories but contemplation and reflection. Since its 1966 release Eau Sauvage has been popular and "respectable". In the 1980s - when writing about post-punk urban subcultures was a regular phenomenon - Eau Sauvage was reported to be the preferred fragrance of London's Sloane Rangers, and their Paris counterparts, the BCBG. The free publicity accompanying its association with upper class urban chic further consolidated the status and popularity of Eau Sauvage Extreme. Eau Sauvage Extreme's appeal lies in its simplicity and unpretentious elegance - the original Eau Sauvage was a stylish aldehyde variation on the theme of a traditional gentleman's citrus cologne: Tradition reinterpreted to become legend. Eau Sauvage Extreme is an improved version of that legend - with longevity beyond that of its progenitor while retaining its distinctive DNA.

simply putted ! next to tsar, Fahrenheit, polo green and kouros! you need more to understand what this dark,spicy,mannly beast is?

What a classy gentleman smell. Out of the 4 in the line that I smelled (cologne, edt, extreme, parfum) this is the one that left the biggest impression on me and the one that I decided to buy. It felt like the most balanced, the most alluring and the most complex of the 4. It's a bit sweeter, darker and denser than the EDT, but not as abrasive as the parfum. I think the scent is mesmerizing. The longevity is good, would say that it is a lot better than the EDT and of course the Cologne. Unfortunately this might have the worst projection out of all the line. It sits very close to the skin after less than an hour. The first time I wore this, my date who always complimented the way I smell, was disappointed thinking that I chose to not wear a fragrance that evening. I had to invite her to smell my neck in order for her to detect anything. Once she smelled it she found it very alluring. That said, if projection is very important to you, I would advise against buying this fragrance.

The best of the line. I have 3 and this one is the best for me.

I like this better than the Parfum. The original 1966 EDT is my second favorite frag ever, but the elemi in Parfum is a big turnoff to me. On opening this extreme is actually closer for me to the Parfum than the original EDT, but does the darker and deeper better than the elemi-bomb parfum.

Something between edt and parfum which leans to edt a tad more. Now I have all 3 of bunch but now thinking it wasn't necessary purchase when you already have edt and parfum. Let's say whenever you apply the edt in morning and day time, you can use the extreme at night time. More herbal less citrus and a bit more depth.if you collecting, it's nice to have all on your shelf,otherwise it would be redundant imo. Stay safe, cheers.

This is a like to okay for me. It is unnecessary with the edt or parfum. Both do their things better IMO. It is good enough for that classic barber shop feel, and it last awhile. I like many of the notes, but I just feel unimpressed for the most part. I would like to keep it in my collection, but I need to make room of other things. The edt and parfum I believe will always remain.

Was excited to try this after being a huge fan of Eau Sauvage barring its somewhat musty dry-down. True to form, beautiful freshness off the top--bergamot, green notes and what I discern as vetiver consistent with the original, though I don't see it listed. I also get the fruitiness noted, which was an interesting addition. Less enamored as it evolves to its base though, when it becomes much sweeter (lavender, sandalwood), slightly spicy (corriander, rosemary) and more powdery than the original. Not something I would likely pull over the original. Sillage and longevity are respectable on me for a lighter frag. I get a solid 6h of wear from two sprays on one arm.

Just received a super well-manufactured travel decant from PurpleX. You twist and the spray nozzle pops up like a hidden sprinkler head!!! Not reviewing sprayers, but this one is so well made. Eau Savage Extreme is really not that extreme. On the positive: The open is one of the most pleasurable I have ever experienced. It does reveal Lemon and a delightful Lavender. I think Caron pour Homme has such a nice Lavender. The notes list on 'top' states Patchouli. Maybe it is one of those superb bright Patchoulis. This open is worth the purchase, but you've got to be fast! The drydown is rapid to a conservative and classy scent. Aldehydes are present and aldehydes appear naturally in clary sage, a frequent component in my beloved Dunhill. Late stage is the mysterious "powdery" word used to describe Orris root-- the root of Iris. I am finally learning Iris/Orris and love it. This scent whispers. It is not a loud statement scent. Lots of notes, so it is hard to isolate. Strangest thing since it is not in the note list. Maybe it is the Oakmoss or accidental accord or just my weird nose. The point: I get this wonderful mineral-scent of the ocean, including that green scent of I guess algae in the ocean. Do phytoplankton have an odor? This is the most sexy, ocean scent I have ever smelled except for the real thing. It is really and truly there, and I think other sniffers would detect it too. My theory is the Lavender, Basil, Bayleaf are dancing with the Aldehydes creating a perceptual accord. Faintest hint of a licorice but notes list shows Basil, Bayleaf, Rosemary. Best open, too fleeting. Settles into agreeable and classy fragrance. This is a fragrance that is elegant and practical. This is an accessory fragrance not an identifier or centerpiece. I like it if I spray it heavy with total abandon.

Back in 1984, this is the second fragrance that I purchased. I had never even heard of the original Eau Sauvage. The black bottle (who wasn't wearing all black in 1984??) drew me in. (like Antaeus) While Antaeus had a darker, dryer, and more serious appeal, Eau Sauvage Extreme had a fresher, more fun loving, yet classy appeal. I stupidly gave away my 1984 bottle, thinking that I could always buy another one. I didn't know back then that fragrance formula could be changed.
