Finally copped Eau Sauvage Parfum. Skipped Sauvage ‘cause it’s overhyped + my skin said no. This one hits different - clean bergamot + lavender that actually blends with my body. Lasts well, smells classy. Already want another bottle

I guess a common question amongst peers is ”are they different?”. This, of course, is a reference to the 2012 vs. 2017 debate. Well, they are. Almost to the point of the 2017 reformulation having spawned a new and separate flanker altogether, I might add. Both revolve around the concept of a modern reinterpretation of the 1960s original and at heart, the lemon and citrus based DNA is evident in both. The 2012 iteration has s fantastic backdrop of myrrh darkened by patchouli and brought alive by sprinkles of bright vetiver. The 2017 version is basically candied lemon(peel) which begins to lean gourmand. Both have a dark or balsamic element to them from the resin I suppose; myrrh in 2012 and elemi in 2017. I can kind of see that they aimed at faithfully reproducing the 2012 version in the 2017 reformulation - who knows why, maybe myrrh became expensive - but the end result ended up not quite there. 2017 is not bad per se, but yet different and, perhaps, a more faithful EDP interpretation of the original EDC. 2012 leans niche, in my opinion, which makes it the more interesting version.

Dry, bitter citrus and lavender open that flips quickly into an earthy vetiver spicy bittersweet (coriander, basil & anise?) heart. After a considerable amount of time the base overtakes the heart with slightly smoky very resinous woods and a powdered balsamic myrrh. It's pretty damned good.

While I like the warm citrus notes, over time everything turns into something thick, oily, cloying, and suffocating. I fail to understand why the Parfum version of the brilliant Eau Sauvage has to be so greasy and dirty.

Vertiver is a note I sometimes struggle with and unlike most people, I strongly associate it with hot weather. Here it is done to absolute perfection combined with the zingy citron in the top and lavender in the mid. The myrrh adds a dark smoky sweetness so that the perfume comes together as a beautiful cooling green balm; exactly as the juice color would suggest. A true any time, any occasion scent but personally love it on a particularly hot day where it absolutely radiates in the best possible way. The 2017 version is just as good with the elemi providing a similar affect although in a slightly different way. Brilliant perfumery given how well it captures the overall vibe of the original EdS while taking it in a new direction. Would be interesting to see this attempted in other old school EdCs- Eau de Hermes Parfum??? Would love to see Demachy run this playbook on that!

هذه النسخة تختلف بشكل كبير عن نسخة 2017 و عن اصدار التواليت لدرجة أني اعتقد أن الرابط الوحيد بينهم هو الاسم فقط العطر هو خليط من الفيتفر و المر، لمسة الحمضيات خفيفة جدا، به شبه من عطر فاهرنهايت ابسوليوت لنفس العطار ديماشي حيث هو الآخر يرتكز على المر لهذا السبب يبدو العطر ثقيل و بدون انتعاش الحمضيات المتوقع لعطر يحمل اسم أوو سوفاج، مناسب للجو البارد و المعتدل و مناسب للعمل و لكن أراه أجمل في الاستعمال الليلي العطر منقطع الاصدار و أصبح نادر، تحصلت على عبوة بعد بحث مطول و لا اعلم هل كانت مخزنة بشكل جيد أو لا و لكن الاداء دون المتوقع بثبات بحدود 6 ساعات و فوحان خلال الساعة الأولى فقط التقييم 4.2/5

Not sure what edition I have but I got it 15 years ago and it’s just beautiful. I use it on special occasions or times I am in the mood but it is so expensive and classy smelling but mostly I enjoy it for myself. I have Prada Amber extreme and it is also nice but not as sweet, the sweetness in the Dior is like nothing else mixed with the myrr.

Didn’t like it that much. Personal opinion. Performance is fine, scent profile is too generic for me.

I've used Eau Sauvage EDT for years but thought I'd upgrade to the Parfum this year. Alas, it seems quite a different fragrance to me. There's an overlap with the EDT, but there's a dominant note I don't recognise, possibly myrrh, looking at votes above. The citrussy freshness of the EDT is missing. I'd always regarded Eau Sauvage as my summer fragrance, but this Parfum version is more wintry, in my view. I'll be going back to the EDT next time.

What an absolute gem !!!! I can’t believe Dior fumbled so badly by reformulating this. A “dark” citrus aromatic- that myrrh is pure magic. This starts off with toned down citrus and resinous wood but dries down to a beautiful creamy wood- almost like 2 frags in 1. Whereas the new formulation has brighter citrus and isn’t nearly as interesting in the drydown. I wish I had discovered this earlier, def would’ve grabbed a few bottles of this.

This scent is so strong and heavy compared to the original citrusy Eau Sauvage. It's not necessarily a bad scent, but it is just too strong for my taste. Citrusy, woody, and a little sweet and powdery, but the amber makes it so dark and heavy. It's easily overpowering and I wish it could be diluted. Smells like something a mob boss would wear.

Yes, this is a darkened version of the original, very old, deserving respect. Citrus destroyed by spices, which doesn’t suit my tastes. This is how an operetta singer could smell — I’ve sniffed similar things while exploring old fragrances. Stifling, almost musty.

Masculine, sophisticated kinda fragrance. Honestly would call it a masterpiece. I love a good myrrh fragrance

Eau Sauvage Parfum stands as one of best creations of the 2000s, demonstrating that a house like Dior, under the guidance of Demachy, could clearly reinvent the wheel while preserving the core dna of a beloved. Unlike the current direction taken by Kurkdjian, which is quite disapointing. Parfum 2012 is, in my opinion, one of the finest myrrh fragrances there is, skillfully intertwining the essence of myrrh and incense, along with the core dna of the original, resulting in a gentlemanly barbershop experience. While the re-release is decent, it fails to encapsulate the elegance of the 2012 original. It's like a captain who has been stripped of his rank, or a mere clone striving to replicate a fragrance. As noted by richmilton, experiencing the original can totally diminish the enjoyment of the re-release. A damn near masterpiece in my book.

I have over 450 fragrances, been collecting for 20+ years. Eau Sauvage Parfum 2012 is my wife's favorite of all time. Even her sister is hunting down a bottle for her man. ESP 2012 is the perfect combination of class, wealth and masculinity. All put together in an unbeatable and unforgettable composition. WTF why would they discontinue this? The 2017 is okay but stripped down to be more mass appealing. Get the OG and you'll be hunting a backup bottle I guarantee it.

Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum (2012) is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite fragrance of all time, and I seriously doubt anything will ever top it. The 2012 release of Dior eau sauvage parfum is the best one. Even better than the 1966 version. The 2017 version neutered it. The myrrh in the 2012 is excellent.

If you're gearing up to take space in a room and maybe even hold court while you're there, this is your olfactory suit of armour.

Got this recently; screams old school masculinity and class. Can be a bit overpowering, so use carefully.

I have had a 2012 black label bottle for about a year. This fragrance continues to perplex me - mainly because I have NO idea what to wear this to besides bed after a shower as its so cozy. Dare I say a somewhat boring DNA but in the highest of Designer Dior quality making a dull composition a high end polarizing mystery. Its a shy citrus forward - myrrh heavy DNA with a creamy allure without being gourmand. Its not Citrus enough for warmer months - the citrus is more of a odd Yuzu type note sort of smelling like a peel over the actual fruit so its rindy. The sweetness is apparent but incredibly low in potency and well balanced with the citrus & Myrrh (possibly the myrrh is the only thing causing it as it resembles Fahrenheit Absolute in nature). If Fahrenheit absolute is the spiritual catholic violet myrrh at the nearby church close to the graveyard- this is the myrrh that is of void of religion and just sealed in peaceful eternity. Its too gothic smelling in nature to be a spring fragrance if 'moods' matter to you - I mentioned in earlier review it reminds me of a dusty graveyard with the citrus giving it comforting moon light over the array of eternal silence. Same mood along the lines of Narciso Rodriguez for men (Wet gravestones) & Toy Boy (Love spell in the woods in a log cabin at midnight) - this one is more - baked sugar free cookies on a plate in a moon lit dusty graveyard. Ghosts baking keto cookies in their mausoleums. Seriously though - its a fun idea but WHERE do I even wear this? I never tried the other version with silver sticker - but I can see why they remixed it. Despite the confusion - smelling the scent from the atomizer is addicting. Along with that - one of the most stunning bottles I have ever owned. Creepy swamp green juice with black detailing and 1979 looking glass decor. Worth a try in the prestigious house of vintage Dior under the iconic in-house Demachy reign.

There is a rich and opulent floral brilliance at the heart of this perfume. It is sweet and creamy without being feminine or cloying. This is not a gourmand scent, rather a robust and vibrant bouquet of heady aroma that captivates and lures you into its unique realm of rare fragrance. The brilliant and sterling freshness of the original Eau Sauvage is insinuated, and beautifully subdued in the dry down. It is appropriate for any special occasion. Quite, quite lovely!

Bentley automobiles should come with a timed release of this scent in their cabins. Perfection. Day or night, any season - if you want to effuse class you'll wear this wherever you go. A scent a Roman emperor would wear. James Bond. Elon Musk should be wearing this.

Spray it a few times and let it have 2 weeks , it'll throat punch you before you mumble the words... "If you wanna smell like an old man" etc etc.... Its bold, citrusy, mysterious, ever changing, thick, fleeting and masterfully done. Not for the faint of heart or children. Its a work of fragrance art.

This site should add a chart that tells you what age range a cologne is best suited for. No surprise here but this cologne is probably not going to work on most people under 30-40 years old. Wouldn't say its worth buying nowadays.

I wrote a review on Eau Sauvage Parfum Dior in 2013. That was clearly the original formulation with Myrrh. Now the same parfum is formulated with Elemi instead. These are both resins but their fragrance is very different. Probably still a good parfum but not what it once was. If you are looking for that Myrrh what once was in Eau Sauvage Parfum you can find it in the newest batch (I-XXIII) of Fueguia 1833 Misiones. That is the same wonderful high quality Myrrh but in a different parfum. I am always aware when I see Elemi in a composition. I find it often too voluptuous, sticky and unpleasant. The only parfum so far where I like elemi is in Klubwasser by Wienerblut. The best Myrrh that I ever experienced in a fragrance however was by far Eau Sauvage Parfum Dior and now in the latest Misiones. Parfum batches are confusing like that as for example the former batches of Misiones were more about Olibanum. Also an amazing resin.
