L’Homme Idéal Cologne

Thierry Wasser composed the top 2 men's summer fragrances, this one and Guerlain Homme L'Eau.

Mildly sweet almond with hints of citrus freshness, smells very clean and luxurious. Longevity is not great, I have a batch from 2017, and after 1 hour, the initial strong projection is gone, after 2 hours it becomes a skin scent, and after 4 hours, it's barely detectable.

The cologne is made for after midnight in summer. It's too hazy and tender for a busy, hot, sunlit summer day. At 2am the remaining heat melts this to a dreamy, sensual and intoxicating fragrance.

50ml bottle minus few sprays available for sale if you're UK-based. I think it smells very good, and I'm surprised at how well it performs on me, but I'm not sure I love it enough or feel like it suits me enough to keep hold of any longer. Drop me a message.

I bought it because I knew it was on its way out & thought I may actually have something.. But Nothing special going here in my opinion..What do I know…Summer fragrances aren’t really my thing!

Fragrance Journal Entry #165 This was my favorite in the L'homme Ideal lineup! I called this the "sexy almond", that's basically what this is...it's an elegant almond based scent with some citrus top notes, very unique stuff and expensive smelling. The biggest problem i had with this fragrance is i never really found the right time to wear it, sure you can essentially wear it anytime in spring and summer but it never felt right putting this on over other fragrances i have so it didn't get much use in my collection so i sold it. Still a solid offering that didn't deserve to get disscontinued. Rating: 7.9/10 Blind Buy Safe? YES

Like some have mentioned, this is a lighter, more citrusy version of the EDT. With the Cologne version, you get a fresher citrus opening. It's light, airy, and paves the way for the heart notes perfectly. Now the drydown is where it shines. Soft neroli, combined with the signature creamy almond. I cannot describe how good this smells. I just wish the Cologne version carries the rosemary note that the EDT has -- it adds so much depth. Anyway, the fragrance is great as it is. Perfectly unisex. This is one of the few fragrances that my wife and I share. Projection is good in the first hour or two, then becomes an intimate scent. I usually do 4-5 sprays each application. Overall, if you enjoy the EDT but wants something lighter and more comforting, get this. Great casual daytime fragrance.

This is the original L’Homme Ideal but more attenuated, fresher and more limpid. The almond presence is there surrounded by attractive watery/fresh notes. This is a spring or summer fragrance, but I’d wear it anytime. As with the original, projection and longevity are impressive.

Grower not a shower. My first impression was that it was a feminine scent but too sharp/masculine for a woman to want to wear but then the dry down….MY GOD I could not stop smelling my wrist. It was so pleasant. Not sure how it performs need to spend more time w it

Very weak and slightly sharp citrus opening, followed by a slightly sweet basic aromatic & Guerlain almond. Soapy and fresh. Unisex but almost Feminine. Somewhat generic and boring.

If you want something similar at a very good price, obviously not with the same quality but it does the job, get the Black 92 from Emper.

I only have a few sprays left. I hope Guerlain releases another fresh L'homme Ideal soon. This is the best fragrance ever.

Wearing a 2015 batch right now. Amazing. What a shame this and Platine Prive were discontinued. This was ahead of its time,it smells like something between Tygar and Imagination but at the same time it’s keeping within the L Homme Ideal line (the almond accord is quite proeminent in it). Evolves so much from the opening until the dry-down too. Starts with a super refreshing realistic grapefruit (very similar to Roja Burlington) and ends in an almost gourmand,ambery almond base. If you find it for a reasonable price,get it.

This is perhaps a bit more grapefruity and soapy than the new platine prive. Finished my ancient decants of it now not worth hunting down but now that both are discontinued, I guess get whatever you can find. What a shame! Both were amazing fragrances RIP

I just landed a bottle of this yesterday, beautiful fragrance. I usually can't stand citrus floral freshies, seeing this is a flanker of the legendary l'Homme Ideal line, I figured it might be worth trying. LHI Extreme is a favorite of mine, and this reminds me very much of Extreme in the dry down. The opening is a beautiful photorealistic orange and citrus with light pink pepper, the dry down is very similar to the original EDT and Extreme, none of the cherry from the EDP or Parfum (which I don't care for). Longevity is actually above average on my bottle, I am getting over 6 hours out of it (6 sprays, but this is a summer fragrance). I sampled Platine Prive a few months ago and I tried some of that sample on one wrist last night and Cologne on the other. There are a lot of similarities, and to me, PP smells objectively better and has a nice creamy vanilla cedar base. That said, the performance of PP is atrocious in comparison. I couldn't even detect any on my skin an hour later while cologne was still going strong for several hours. That's the trade off between the two.

A truly unique and sophisticated freshie that was criminally discontinued. Absolutely buy this if you can still find it reasonably priced.

Luckily scooped this up off FB Marketplace for $50, 1.7 oz like 98% full! Super classy and mature freshness. The most realistic orange/lemon I’ve ever smelled in the opening. Dry down is nice and musky. Got great projection for the first 4-5 hours, but then sadly comes down to a skin scent. If you can find of these for a decent price and you want a classy fresh scent, grab it ASAP

Aromatic, sophisticated, citrusy and sweet. The L'homme Ideal line has a theme of sweetness to their frags, and this is no different. But this sweetness is understated, more like a lemon pound cake kind of feel to it. Come to think of it, this really does smell like a lemony pound cake kind of thing. As it drys down you can detect more almond, neroli, that kind of thing. The opening is very citrusy but the sweetness begins to creep in and the fragrance transitions from light and airy to a bit creamy. It's a mature fragrance, more for 30+ male. Performance is nothing insane, 4 hours or so. This is a very on brand fragrance for Guerlain.

The citrus is overpowering, and to me it just smells like lemon, I cannot sense anything else, no orange or grapefruit. It is fine but nothing special. I can't sense the almond note.

This was an absolute BANGER, especially for under £40 when I purchased it before it was discontinued. I managed to get the newer Prive version which I’ll be wearing this spring and summer.

Pink pepper and almond. Nope. L’homme not so Ideal Cologne was not for me. Got rid of my bottle a while back.

This is such a unique uplifting summer fragrance I think I like it more every time I wear it, the almond+neroli works so well

Why did they discontinue this? Imagination but without all the headache inducing ambroxan… smells similar but much better, I wouldn’t be surprised if LV took inspiration from this. Soapy citrus blast at the start, with the almond note that really gives off a tea-like quality, dries down with vetiver. Amazing dumb-reach freshie, my only complaints is the longevity (3-4 hours). But for the price and the smell, it’s definitely worth it…

Initially I really was into this fragrance but eventually the vetiver just turned me off.

How the hell could this have possibly been discontinued? Ideal Cologne is one the best smelling summer freshies every made! I don't wear it often because I'm afraid of running out but I treated myself to this banger this morning and it was so damned good. It lasted on my shirt all day it was pure bliss. They need to bring this back!

This is like a carbonated Arnold Palmer in fragrance form. If you took Arizona Iced Tea, and instead of a lemonade, you mixed it with Sprite, that's kind of what this gives me. It's not exact, but it's like that. I really enjoy this fragrance in the summer. It's a casual, whites and brights attire kinda scent.

A very calming, smooth and well blended scent. Everything stays smooth from the citruses at the opening, to the sweetness at the drydown. On my skin, it becomes very sweet, soapy, and creamy, from the neroli and the almond, which give a tea vibe in the drydown. It is quite a unique take on a citrus scent, with a great longevity of over 8 hours on my skin and a moderate projection. I found it for 55 euros for a 100 ml bottle, and I am quite satisfied, although I feel that it is a quite complex and maybe a little challenging fragrance for me, because I haven't smelt anything else from the line. Overall, I think it is a gem of a fragrance and it deserves the hype and love it gets, mostly for its uniqueness and the high quality of the formulation. This may not be the best for a blind buy, but I understand that it's not easy to test it nowadays. I totally recommend it, if you find it for a good price. 8.5/10 S.A.

this is easily in my top 3 or even top 2 summer frags. when i first got it, first sniff was a strong like but after wearing it i absolutely fell in love. it's such a comfortable scent. effervescent opening, refreshing, cool, creamy. i would wear this daily in the summer if it wasn't discontinued there's no overly masculine accord, which i love. it's blended to PERFECTION in typical Guerlain fashion. there are no notes that necessarily stand out, they all just seamlessly blend into each other and it's incredible. can't believe they discontinued this and will cherish my bottle - if you can find this at a reasonable price somewhere, get it. the longevity is average, projection is strong in the first hour or two with 4 or 5 sprays around the neck/arms but gets closer to the skin after that, at which point it gets super alluring and creamy
